The costly Jesse Kriel experiment is suspended

After a few nice cuts onto passes in his RC debut, Kriel became moribund at the WC. Aside from his missed tackle at the death, and I mean the death, against Japan....he simply wasn't there.
I can write his defence by the groupies already.....he never got a chance. But crucially he never made a chance. Test defence at the highest levels is unlocked first by vision, by the player seeing the opportunity in his imagination and acting on that vision. Kriel is a robot, stuck on station and content to patrol his defined area....thus irrelevant.

Even when he is sprung free as he was last week towards the end of the game, he throws a misdirected forward pass to end perhaps our most dangerous scoring chance.
While in Super rugby he is an invisible participant. And if his defensive stats suggest he hasn't missed an excessive number of tackles....what those stats don't show is how far his opponent progresses from the time of first contact....how many dangerous offloads are made in his tackles.

This experiment has failed....it's time for him to go back to 15 and make a case for himself there.

 I thought he was supposed to be the bees knees Moz ? What went wrong from a handy debut to whatever he is now ?

 A bit like the move when Christian Cullen was circulated to 13 WD. Cullen was never as dangerous as when he had space to start his moves but still way more effective than Kriel.  Kriel started out like a house on fire, but has produced nothing for country or province for almost a year. 
And unlike a guy like Conrad Smith he can't seem to go low in the tackle. 13 is the one position on the field where,  tackling without the support of the loosies or the touchline, you simply can't miss on the outside....ergo you have to make a classical low tackle. I have never seen Kriel do that when it counted....the Japanese try being case in point.

 Yeah I see what you mean about the try ,pity he seemed or seems promising .

Ward, if you believe Moz's take on the try, you are as stupid as he is  

 Seemed promissing ....but he is a nonentity in Super rugby, after a non contributing WC. He has disappeared without a peep from fans.

Meyer took an age to accept that he'd made a mistake with JJ.
Coetzee would probably have continued with Kriel (another Meyer pick) ... but being a racist he chose Mapoe instead.



 

 Coetzee does not pick the team. I think he's got 1 vote out of 4. He did not even get to pick his coaching team. Jurie Roux and Hoskins are the puppets dancing to Fokkielie's strings. We need someone with balls to tell Fokkiele and the ANC to fokof.

Kreil is young and hugely talented. Dr Moz going astray again.

 Kriel is the reincarnation of JJ.

 Dr Moz how many times will you trash young players and have it come back to bite. Be warned Kriel is a very good player.
Kreil is more compact and explosive. Had he been in NZ he would be a sensation by now.
