The day SARU wanted to save Eastern Province Kings Rugby

So the EP Kings was declared  insolvent on 4 August 2016.  On that day  SARU announced that they reached  agreement with Jordaan - the Mayor of Nelson Mandela Metro -  that the Metro will provide R20 million Rand to save the union from total demise.   

There was just one rather minor problem – as is normal with the ANC they had to provide money for the preservation of their crony – Cheeky Watson.    They had to find money so the loot of the Metro would not be a problem.

However, there was just one minor miscalculation – the next day  it became clear that the DA would take over  the  administration of Nelson Mandela Bay Metro  and the potential Mayor (Trollip) said he will have to take the  matter to the new Council for consideration.

One thing is as clear as daylight – as long as Cheeky  Watson is the President of EP Rugby they  Municipality will not release a cent to the  Watson  looting machine  - so SARU is back in the twang and now have to negotiate a new deal with the Municipality – that is if the Municipality would come to a new  agreement with SARU.  What is clear though – the Municipality will not release half a cent while Watson is in charge – So back into the twang again for SARU and their faithful ANC leadership.

 Doubt if they will give R20 million to rugby its not a politi cally wise move and is silly in terms of rugby. Sooner the EP Queens depart from Super rugby the less embarrassment there will be.

 They would rather spent the R20 million in upgrading of infrastructure and services in poor areas and not on rugby - which will not make a lasting impression insofar as voters are concerned..   The DA will spend every last cent of the municipal money to make sure they will get extra votes in future as a result.   

What will happen to the Super 18 next year? Does it become the Super 17- minus a total loser?
What will become of the travel schedule.
It looks like the 3 year broadcast deal is toast.
It is ironic- as the competition was changed from a successful superxv to accommodate the Queens
on the positive side- at least the SuperXVIII is terminated- unless they can find another useless team to fill the slot.
I think they need to look at a restructure- like having a regional conference to start with- Then putting the top teams from each country into one group- and the worst into the bottom group. (The top 2 teams of the losers round - can play in the quarters). This will create strength vs strength of the top teams- but still expand the tournament using the losers round with a wildcard entry to the top of the losers round teams
