The difference between AC and Johan Ackermann

AC is a reasonable coach but is a repeat of old type rugby that is stuck in the past. He selects individuals to put together some on obvious merit, some on past reputation but a hit and miss formula...hoping it will come together with individual talent. Game plans are not convincing and directionless... WP/Stormer rugby typical example.

Johan is very different...he takes a selection of players and builds each one into a good player through time to knit into a team...creates a unit that plays attacking style but they build together and get to know, trust and perfect each individual skill as a TEAM.

Pressure at national selection is not easy because fans are impatient...they want instant results which is impossible...it takes time to build a unit. The Lions have proved this...came from nowhere and developed in stages and strength to become a formidable side. A good side that plays together and knows each other as a team is far stronger and effective than a team of individual stars from different teams thrown together at a test match...only a few weeks or days to gel.

Ian Mac Intosh was an outstanding coach for the Sharks in the old days but failed as an international coach because he did not have time...Louis Luyt was impatient and instant results cannot be made overnight...so they fired him...the SA rugby conglomerate and fans want instant results...this never happens...Kitch Christie inherited Ian Macs work and turned the Boks into a formidable team.

Danie Craven was a coach of long standing and had time to build.

What we should do is give Ackermann the reigns to build a side over the longer term so that at least we will have a good unit come the next WC...sacrifice a few losses now and then along the way for a bigger result in the longer term...otherwise we will see the same results with all it's criticisms repeating themselves over and over again.

I sometimes think we are very blind and stupid and a sucker for repetitive failures and still will never learn.

 Sebastien ... it seems you've forgotten that teams and coaches are selected on race ... not merit.
I too am ever hopeful that sanity will win in the end ... but the reality of that ever happening is rather slim.
The difference between Coetzee and Ackerman is that the one has an understanding of the game and the other doesn't.
The one has a natural talent to lead and guide and the other is merely winging it and hoping for the best. 

Any way you slice it there are still variables which can be eliminated. Picking horribly out of form players is not a good way to start. And then there is De Jongh. What the hell!? Based on what we saw against Ireland there are a good few players who needed to go back to club rugby. No player should be allowed to play himself into form in the Bok jersey. That's what the CC is for.

 A class act like Julian Savea is dropped when he loses form.
Here we keep selecting them till thine kingdom comes.
In the end it's all about the team ... not the individual.
