1.   The decision by Meyer to sub Bismarck at a crucial stage in the Ellis Park test.

2.    The selection of Gurthro Steenkamp and Bakkies Botha for the EOYT by Meyer

3     The decision to play O'Connor at flyhalf and wing by Deans and McKenzie

4      Team selection in general by McKenzie coupled to the punishment of 6 players prior to a test in the EOYT

5     The selection disasters by Coetzee insofar as the Stormers team is concerned.

There are other strong candidates as well, for example -

*   the handling of the fat and unfit Francois Steyn case by Plumtree;

*   Meyer's selection of players who let the team down in games against the All Blacks and who under-performed in other tests as well.

@mikey,

player selection could have its own category IMO, as there have been many and not just within the Boks, though the Boks do have the most and worst selection choices.

but worst 5 decisions,,,

1 hansen allowing julian savea to play rugby after he hit his missus.
savea is the worlds best No11 easy, but hansen and the NZRU missed a very good opportunity to draw the line and say, i dont give a F how good a player u are, being an All Black means being class, on and off the field.

savea didnt need to get banned from rugby, but there should ahve been some sanction IMO.

2 bizzy getting subbed early in ellis park.
his absence might not have changed the tide, but it came at a crucial stage of the game with that 5 meter scrum.
and as good as strauss is who i rate as the No2 No2 in the wolrd (lolz), theres a huge gap between him and bizzy, such is the class of bizzy.

3 john kirwan playing a blues B team vs bulls in round 4.
the blues had just smashed the hurricanes and crusaders in round 2 and 3, and instead of playing the same team, kirwan opted to rest players wanting to give them a breaksaying things like the spXV is a marathon, not a race.

the crazy thing is the blues had a bye in round 5, so the players could have been given more then a decent rest considering the season had pretty much just started.

this is why i dont rate kirwan as a coach, while i agree that resting players throughout the spXV season is a must, u dont rest players against teams like the bulls.
the lower tier teams are the teams that kirwan should have rested his top preforming players against, not the bulls.

4 meyers tactics vs All Blacks in ellis park
meyer opting to get the Boks to play a more expansive game with morne at 10, against the All Blacks whose entire team and DNA is all about expansive rugby was sheer stupidity at its finest.

so after the first 10 minutes, the game was pretty much sealed, trying to beat the All Blacks with expansive rugby when Bok DNA is 10man rugby, is like trying to stop robocop with curse.

lose morne, then play attacking rugby, but until then, dont bother waking up the All Blacks for the zero challenge which is the Boks in ellis park or anywhere in SA for that matter.
in the professional era, the All Blacks have a higher winning percentage vs the Boks in SA, so legally, NZ owns SA,

5 hansen not giving afeaki more All Black game time.

afeaki has the ability to be the incumbent and worlds best tighthead, so why does he continued to get overlooked???
i can understand regarding owen franks, cos when hes fit, hes the world best tighthead easy , but as good decen at faumuina has been for the All Blacks, he hasnt played at a level which IMO warrants the continuing snubbing of afeaki.

afeaki gets around the filed better then any frontrow in the game, hes a power hitter, a power ball carrier an awesome scrummager and hes so damn quick for a half kiwi half mountain son of sparta.

i will never understand his continuing snubbing which IMO is hansens biggest mistake.

 Sasu, agree with you about Sir JK about Auckland playing a B Team(basically changed the whole team) against the Bulls in Round 4 in NZ when they had a bye the following week - That has got to be the MOST stupidest decision by a coach (well, in NZ anyway). The Blues never regained any momentum after their loss to the Bulls. and I thought Pat Lam was bad enough - he seems to have been replaced by another moron.

 @sasuke. Point4- The tactics were fine. The match was lost due to poor tackling, and also the kick offs and lineouts. It was the first time I have ever seen an All Black lineout that was easily better than the Boks lineout. Even a past it Matfield would have made the difference at lineouts and kickoffs, or Andries Bekker if available.
The All Blacks played well in that game but the boks defence was crap.

 Sharkbok..Dont worry about that Sasuke knob.. He takes any opportunity he can to have a crack at South Africa. He speaks shit and his hat for anything SA comes through.

Owen Franks the best tighthead in the world - In your head Sas, maybe he is. Not in reality.

Julian Savea the best number 11 in the world - Once again, maybe in your dom kop Sasuke but in reality, there is a guy named Bryan Habana. Savea has the potential to be but he has a lot more to prove than a couple decent seasons in an AB side until he can call himself that.

Dont forget, its one of the easiest jobs in the world to be an AB winger in their current set up. Every wing that comes in looks a million bucks. Savea, Jane, Smith, Piutau..All look like stars. Put Habana in that AB team and he will run in 5 tries a game!

 Put Savea in a team like the Aussies and see him for what he really is.
