The following iro the Robert Du Preez mistakes oon Saturday

"Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus says that Robert du Preez feels guilty after his costly mistake against Wales last Saturday, but he has backed the young flyhalf to bounce back. 

The 24-year-old Shark, on Test debut in Washington, was at fault for Wales' winning try when he had two kicks charged down in quick succession in the final moments of the match. 

It allowed Wales to sneak a 22-20 victory, but Erasmus would not lay the blame at Du Preez's feet. 

Instead, he suggested that the team had also contributed to the mistake by not providing Du Preez with enough 'shield' support around the rucks. 

"It isn't 100% his fault ... it was more a team mistake," Erasmus explained.

"He feels guilty, but the only thing you can do is bounce back and rectify it when you get your next opportunity. He understands that."

Erasmus explained that giving young players a platform was crucial at this stage of the Bok journey towards Japan 2019. 

"We have to make some big calls between now and the World Cup. We have to try guys and see what they have and we're going to make a few mistakes while doing that," he said.

"We can go the old route and just pick the same guys, coach them better and hope for different results or we can throw guys there in the deep end and hope they swim.

"There were 13 new caps on Saturday and some of them swam and some of them struggled a little bit. Robert was one of those guys."

The Boks now turn their attention to England and this Saturday's clash at Ellis Park in the first of three Tests.

Handre Pollard will start that match at flyhalf."

Erasmus is probably correct in this - but it is a seriously bad reflection fo especially the loosies on the field of play on Saturday.   Mohoje is a bad joke, and Notshe was poor as well.   I am afraid that the situation is totally out of control wh en it comes to the loosies - they cannot shield the backline players - they cannot protect balls at breakdown situations and they cannot recover balls in such situations.

Maybe I was too strong in my condemnation of Du Preez in this case.         

Yes ou maaaaikie you were too harsh. This wouldn't have happened if you had been paying attention to what i said about Du Preez.

Let me guess ... you think that Robert Du Preez would make a better lock, right?

Robert Du Preez has a lot of talent.

It's unfortunate that he had such a shocker in his debut. Hope it doesn't leave a scar.

In the right context...he was not at fault entirely...first of all bringing him on at the last 10 minutes of the game was a blunder.  His first Springbok appearance...too little time to perform under the pressure created by the teams malfunctions...huge nerves...has to create favourable impression and perform in such a ridiculous short space of time. Jantjies had 70 minutes to perform...a stupid move. He should have been brought on much earlier...

Robert is an exceptional player with huge prospects...it's totally unfair and unreasonable to expect a miracle turnaround from a new boy in such conditions and in so little time and in the situation created by the rest of  not performing.

The charge downs caused him to make an uncharacteristic error...

I would rather have Du Preez than either Jantjies or Fat Fransie at flyhalf.

Kabal is correct, but I also agree with Mallett that even before Du Preez received the ball he should have noticed the umbrella of Bok players to his left and they would have provided a much better security should he made a mistake. Bad fault from Du Preez.
