I have always maintained that this side is a pathetic insult to SA rugby and Wales showed them up for the useless side they are. Imagine this pathetic lot taking on England, Oz and NZ, man oh man we are going to get a smack against Oz and NZ in Aug.
Talk about pathetic, it took a suspect penalty try to have us snatch a victory that saved us form a historic defeat at Home against the Welsh.
Matfield was bloody useless, owned in contact as if he was a bloody kid playing a mans game......this old man takes the odd line-out ball and kick-off but fails miserably in the physical battles......complete liability.
Alberts no longer provides the edge he used to, is just passenger these days.
Morne again was bloody useless, enough said.
The best players were Willie, Serfontein, JP, Beast, Vermeulen and Hendricks
What a pathetic side and a pathetic showing

Sourpuss. Pissed off because the "clear penalty try" robbed your guys of a win?

The pathetic performance should be seen in context of Wales - weakened by injuries this time around - and the failure of the Wales campaign in the 6 Nations. Wales was just slightly better than Scotland and Italy in that competition and the bar is very low in their case - and they nearly beat the Springboks.
It is not the statistics that counts. Burger was as busy as a bee - but weak in execution. Same with Matfield and all the other "geriatrics". Pietersen is not a 13 at all - he should be replaced. He filed as a 13 for the Sharks inb 2012 and he failed as a 13 this year for the Springboks.
This series showed serious weaknesses in teh Springbok team and if Meyer does not make the necessary changes - we are going to be beaten by cricket scores in the RC.

I've just watched the match. Very very lucky win, that last illegal tackle was completely unnecesary, Hendriks was loosing his feet after North's missed tackle and a small legal shove had been enough to put him out of the field. Liam Williams made his team loose and Steve Walsh's dubious call for a penalty try also helped.
If this happen in a match of the AB we would be reading about bent refs, irb and world conspiracies, etc, etc, etc.
Agree about the selection made by Meyer is an insult to the SA rugby or at least doesn't represent its potentiallity. If Meyer sticks with his selection criteria (and it seems that he'll do) is gonna be a hard RC for the springboks and they'll probably find them struggling with Argentina to avoid the wooden spoon. Can not see how this team could beat the AB and the wallabies, their only threat is le Roux but he won't be enough against these 2 teams. Their other weapon yesterday, the rolling maul, has been totally counteracted by the AB the last years.
Very funny how some big mouths in this site were writing once and again and again and again about the AB's decline and that they are not WC contenders any more.
Bwahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahhahahahahahhaha
they should be worried for their own big problems before criticising others

ABasquefan, no comments about the performance of France vs Australia? Wales are a much better team than France who seem to get worse every year.
South Africa is ranked number 2 in the world, and we walloped France with ease last year.

couldn't see the match yesterday, 7.00 am is a very bad time. I'll watch it after watching again the AB's match.
But France is in a big crisis (they should rethink its clubs' politics of
bringing so many foreign players) and hardly can be considered as
barometer of
any other team's condition. It seems that McKenzie has achieved to
strengthen the aussie forward pack but can not be sure of it untill
they face real contenders, the AB and the springboks. If he has really
achieved it Australia can be very dangerous for both, if his backline
receive good balls can menace any defense, specially Folau but also AAC
(who is in great form),
Cummins, Beale,...
As yopu said Wales is a better team than France but Australia is also better (I would say much better at this moment) than Wales and is ranked 3rd
IMO the big problem that SA faces is that the
selection made by the coach team is very far of beeing the best
possible, unlike what happens in NZ or Oz

wales were missing r hibbard, s warburton, l halfpenny, j tupiric, r prestland, IMO france were a way better side then that weak welsh team.
australia is the biggest threat to the All Blacks period, their team has been injected with a ton of waratah players whose rugby attacking philosophies is something that no Bok player or coach in their wildest dream could even begin to imagine.
the wallabies have a ton of NZ born players in their squad, and we all know that NZ have the best rugby players in the world.
meyer and his Boks will as always be an IRB ranked 2 threat, but as long as the All Blacks field their best team possible on game day, Boks will lose both tests again and meyers winning percentage will be remain at zero.
and it goes without saying that the ref will cop the stereotypical saffa abuse.
22 Jun 2014, 22:13#10
We were also missing players. The best lock in the world, Eben Etzebeth (Who alone has a bigger impact than all of the injured Welsh players combined), De Villiers, Strauss and De Allende

The Boks won. That's what the history books will say.
They needed twp penalty tries to do it though. They couldn't do it themselves.
Once again the youngsters in the team were superb.
Faggot, his Doos and Sharkbok will come up with their usually idiocy.
No matter The entire planet saw the display put on by the elderly Boks this weekend.
The top dogs in world rugby are chomping at the bit to have themselves some of this mature Springbok.
This time round, the team that lost to Japan last year, were ready to put up a little more of a challenge. They out scrummed us, showed Matfield up as yesterdays hero, exposed Meyer as an idiot selecting Coenie as tighthead cover and many many more.
I knew the Boks would be given this match by some dubious means or another.
They have been exposed though and that's enough for me.
Thoroughly enjoyed the panic on Meyer and Matfield's faces. Especially when Matfield kept pushing the ref for favours.
Well played Wales. You were robbed!!

Lets sum this one up and looked at what went wrong in the game:-
* Willie was his brilliant self - no problem* Hendricks was a good finisher* Pietrsen had one god run after putting in space by Willie - for the rest one big zero* Serfontein was solid in defense - but got very little ball to show real worth in attack* Habana produced nothing of note* Steyn was pathetic - shows why he is the Stade Francias reject* Du Preez was slow and ineffective - poor under the one high ball he had to field* Vermeulen missed a crucial tackle but otherwise worked hard.* Alberts was ineffective and loafed through the time on the field* Louw was working hard throughout the game* Matfield was good in line outs - weak tackler and gave away crucial penalty* Flippie - the card specialist at it again - penalty machine* Jannie - despite was solid* Bismarck - tired game, was ineffective* Beast solid in scrums
Alberts was replaced after 25 minutes by Burger who looked lively - buit never achieved much. He looks like a powder puff player - ineffective and not giving his all - like he did in the past.
It s evident that we must -
* forget about the experiment to play Pietrsen at 13 - he is not a center* time to get rid permanently of the totally ineffective Morne Steyn* Du Preez is becoming a case that must be viewed with real concern* Alberts remains a serious weakness in the team * Matfield does not produce enough in Tight 5 play and weakens the Tight 5* Flippie is really not a player to be trusted - really major discipline problems
It is obvious that the Du Plessis Brothers and Beast needs a break badly and they should be rested.
The upcoming RC is going to be a bitter experience for SA if we do not change the situation. The indicated players needs a break badly. W need to get athe center combination improved. Serfontein is fine - but the return of De Villiers and De Allende is essential. Morne needs to go and warm the bench of Satde Francais permanently. Alberts is too limited a player and needs to be replaced asap and the best we can do with Burger is to play him off the bench for not more than 15 minutes. Matfield is weakening the Tight 5 too much - despite his line out play - he has to go. Flippie is a danger to the team and should at best be on the bench - to serious an ill-discipline risk.
The remaining players can be retained in the starting line up or on the bench for the Springboks in the RC.
It is clear that Meyer's favourites - Morne, Bakkies and Matfieldd - are weakening the team and they should be regarded as way past their best and forgotten about.

So back to what a reporter wrote. Matfield was nearest t a ball where protection was necessary after a foul up by Morne Steyn. So what - he still stopped the Welsh attack. That and a few line u takes was all he did of note, We also lost three line outs - one thrown directly at Matfield and two that went long because he did noit get to the right height to catch the ball. Also called by him to go to him. He caught a kick in ball ran about five meters and got tackled - hung onto the ball and was penalized. Three easy points to the Welsh.
And his so-called leadership - not much in evidence there. In two cases line kicks were taken in the second half when the Welsh were penalized and in both cases nothing came of it. I fail to see how his leadership inspired the flat Springbok forwards - who struggled throughout the match.
All this hype and very little to show for it. What a joke!!!!!!!!!

What a joke, Matfield was owned in the physical battles - the best the old man could do was concede penalties because he was not physical enough to compete........as I have said from day one, the bloke is a liability for he is not physically up to the battle of test match rugby.......but we can take comfort in the fact that he takes his line-out balls and kick-off and Meyer thinks the sun shines out his arse
