The Sexton drop kick that beat France 2 or more minutes after full time was a classic. Hardly into French territory, on a wet field it never looked like missing. The looks on French faces said it all, it was literally a stunning kick. Tellingly the French had no kick rushers in place Prior to that France had looked the better team in the second half, culminating in a superb Teddy Thomas try. Pure speed is still the most exciting thing in rugby. A highly enjoyable bit of test rugby .

Are you not worried about the fact that Ireland never scored a try in that match?   That is as good as cooking their goose in the 6-Nations this year.

"The Sexton drop kick that beat France

Pure speed is still the most exciting thing in rugby...really

LOL

Kickers versus try scorers...very confusing....bring back the Morne Steyns, Neil Jenkins, Jannie De Beers and Naas Botha's of the rugby world....versus the Daisuke Ohata's, Bryan Habana's, David Campese's and Shane Williams's of the past.

Bahahabahahahahahahaha???? What's rugby priority about...kicking or try scoring???

"The Six Nations will be decided in the test between Ireland and England"

LOL...what a revelation

If Ireland cannot score tries they are doomed in the competition.   Italy scored two tries against England and they were up to minute 70 not all that above norm.

Um no Carter 2015 RWC Final was better. Context.

Now let’s see. What happened when Ireland played the Boks 3 months ago. They scored 4 tries and we scored none. Seems to me the Smelly/Tokkie axis doesn’t really have a point.

Context...fair enough and yeah...there's obviously a huge value in a timely clinching drop kick and ofcourse getting your penalties and conversions through the posts and yes Dan Carter's display in 2015 WC final was perhaps the best...and to be fair Sextons was a classic, so was Larkhams, Jannie De Beer won the match against the Br/Irish Lions way back for the Springboks with a series of drop-kicks but the greatest in history was Joel Stransky's in 1995 but that was pre-1999.

There's a time and place for everything but most prefer an emphasis on running rugby and try scoring...I certainly do...it's far more entertaining.

Yeah Beeno, a bit of a stir now and then...does no harm...Mozart is entitled to enjoy his rugby Jake White's 10 man rugby style and Ol' Maaikie takes it too much to heart but forbid it not to return back to our game...the AB's can kick when it's needed but by and large they play balanced rugby...the emphasis on kicking leads to boring rugby...leave that for the conservative fans...whatever floats your boat....

Mozart

So the Irish performance is now linked to the rubbish dished up by the so-called Coetzee Springboks,    Your erstwhile hero Coetzee was subsequently fired and that was no norm to indicate the strength of the Irish team.

Dream on Tokkie.....Ireland beat the All Blacks at Soldiers Field and then beat England to deny the Poms a new world record winning streak scoring the only try. And you think they are a poor team. What a fool. Ireland is exactly the model that would work for the Boks......good finishing, ferocious defence, tough set pieces and very effective kicking. It’s so obvious....we will not beat the All Blacks at a wide open game. We need a balance.....just like Ireland.

I live at present and not in the past - Ireland was struggling against France on Saturday and what counts is present performance in the  present series .

No you live in a fantasy....the moronic fantasy that carthorses like Allende are going to run the ABs ragged. Not one SA back would make the NZ team and you want a game plan that relies on our backs dominating their backs.

No Mozart I do not follow your example of obstinacy.   I only support performers and when players are sub-par I support their dropping from, the team as indicated in my latest posting as to De Allende.

I do not support the game plan you described above either.   I believe that their should be a comprehensive game plan - not the high kick and charge game plan which you regard as the only  game to be played,

The Irish game plan is not kick and charge....nor was the game plan Jake used to win the WC.....nor the game plan used under PdV to beat the Lions. It was balanced Springbok rugby, just like the Irish/English game plans currently deployed.

What is this?   Jake's game plan changed slightly as a result of Eddie Jones inclusion in his coaching team - but changed back to 10 man rugby in the WC final.

De Villiers initially tried - but when the senior players made all decisions on the issue the 10 man game was back in full and remained under Meyer and Coetzee.

Sure the NH teams changed their game plans in recent years and is now different fro, what it used to be - but the Meyer and Coetzee years never allowed for such a change,   Actually no SA coaches in the 21st century thus far have had one thing in common - all have been totally   ignorant of backline play and the result was that by 2017 the games played all showed a total ignorance/disregard for 15 man rugby

Nonsense Mike we beat the Lions through backline tries. And if there was no backline play, just grinding into the 22 and tries from mauls, let’s verify that. But oops: Tries Player Period. 66 Bryan Habana 2004–2016. 38 Joost van der Westhuizen 1993–2003. 32 Jaque Fourie 2003–2013. 27 Jean de Villiers 2002–2015. 26 Breyton Paulse 1997-2007. All the top 5 try scorers are backline players. You really do let your fantasies cloud your judgement. And by the way no team has won a WC final playing open rugby.....not the Boks, not Oz, not England, not the ABs.

I also remember that.

Didn't the Tahs need a try bonus point win for the finals or something?

He was blasted for it going over as the Tahs wanted to kick for the corner.

Mozart

How many Springbok backline players were there since 2000?   Individual brilliance of a few does not take away from the lack of a comprehensive game plan by the SA coaches and the total absence of backline skills development by all the coaches since 2000.

The worst coaches in that period were Meyer and Coetzee who both were clueless about backline coaching with White slightly better only when assisted by Eddie Jones,

Absence of individual brilliance leads to limited rugby. It’s the chicken not the egg. No coach made Habana or JDV exceptional.....they actually gave their coaches options. Options which Jake cashed in.

Yeah Mr Xavi he was a bit embarrassed at having scored that when they needed a try for a bonus point to make the finals eh ?

A prop embarrassed at scoring a droppy ,strange days indeed !
