The real story of the SA games this year is that playing of midgets in the backline is a certain recipe for disaster.
So lets look at a few f those and see whether my statement is correct:-
Lionel Mapoe -  not an outright failure, but not a success story either.Juan de Jongh - failed badly in both attacking and defensive playSergeal Petersen - if yesterday is a real indication - he failed badly in all aspects of play.   The try scored by him does not correct his disastrous display in ther est of the game.

Lambie is your best shot until Pollard returns, so please calm your tits.

Sergeal Pieterson should get another shot. It is not often he will have to face a 130kg wing like that. That try he got brought SA back into the game.
Lambchop is solid- but he could lose his spot to Pollard.
Jean Devilliers was commenting on Sky that he would like to see Lambie and Pollard play at 10 a nd 12

Exactly; Coetzee just had to swap Petersen with Ulengo and the game would have been totally different.

So I was able to enjoy the game from the stands yesterday at wembley and I couldn't agree more. It is very hard in this day and age to get away with so many small players in your team. Car, Paige, Lambie, Pietersen are all either less than 90kg or under 180cm. That said, the big winger was a handful and bashed 3 players out of the way at will. The stormes also had a really small backline at one stage with Kolbe, De Jongh, Aplon and Catrikillis but back then the guys use to gang tackle and press a lot more to stop other players getting momentum. That was all thanks to the former defense coach Nienebaar who now is the defensive coach of Munster. Coetzee doesn't have the personnelrsonel to help with a small back line.
I'm not a big fan of Esterhuize from the sharks but boy does he keep attackers honest.
It took the boks 20 phases to just try and break the line where as the bigger BaaBaa team simply did it in 3 phases. The players seem to make contact and get the off load a way.
Coming back to my earlier point, the biggers players in the last 4 years and especially the kiwi players have develop a fantastic offload in the contact. It is almost that if you want to take the man on and can't break the line then you have to to almost everything to get a decent pass out to your supporters. Where as our players simply can not hold themselves up in the tackles neither try to get their hands in the position to make a clean off load. If we want to compete we really have to work on this.
I have been watching some videos of our former heros such as Joost who were all direct players but knew how to break out of a tackle or feed of line breaks. Ruben kruger was another that help Joost, fantastic skills to break around the rucks and then put a speedy direct Joost away. We are simply not that physical anymore and we need to go back to basics but work on offloading in the contact and getting the support players to run the correct lines.

It has been written that the physical development of all professional sportsmen has developed into a very precise science.   The same applies to rugby.
Sportsmen nowadays are must bigger and physically stronger they used to be.   To compete under those circumstances one has to have the expertise and abilities needed.  Included in this are two most important abilities = ball sense and ball handling, in which off-loads is part.
Ball sense tells you what to do with the ball to gain an advantage over the opposition.  That is why I dislike intensely the tale about :traditional SA Rugby"  because it has been developed into a farce.

King I agree re current back line player size. Apart from not being able to dominate in the defensive collision they also all track across the field in attack. Allowing a simple drift D. It takes 30 phases for a forward to get the ball and straighten the line and keep the defense honest. The backs are so small they know they are going to get smashed and not be able to protect the ball.

It's not rocket science. Take Ireland's winning try....the first receiver took the ball wide pulling Ardie Savea with him and at the instant Savea was committed Henshaw cut inside him into the space vacated by Savea.....try. The Irish centres are big enough, not huge. Nothing wrong with a huge guy like Rohan....but he has to become more effective defending.
