The Jantjies assessment ioro his gamme on Saturday

The assessment of Jantjies is summed up best by looking at his performance under pressure.   When the pressure is high - like in the case of that last minute penalty kick - Jantjies is bound to fail.
I have to admit I also take a look at his defensive play and his stats made for miserable reading.    He made 5 tackles and missed 4.    Matter of fact he contributed in a major way to the frail defe4nse of the flyhalf and inside center combination with Serfontein making three tackles and missing three.   That means a sieve representing  7 missed tackles out of a total of 15 attempts - ie a missed tackle ratio of 46,7%.
Beside that the two players also managed to make 4 possession losses by deficient play.
The case is to my mind clear - Jantjies is not the answer to our flyhalf situation.    I am really impressed about what especially Willemse and to a slightly lesser extent Bosch can bring to the party.    Bosch is more like  McKenzie in his performance - while Willemse is a much more physical player.    Both are thinking players and has the ability to change their games making them more effective than Jantjies manage to be.
One cannot expect that Coetzee would make changes to his selection this year - but another Super Rugby season may cause such a change.    The problem is that the other flyhalf in the squad - Pollard - is also in danger of falling out of the situation.   He has had virtually no game time since his most recent injury and when he came on against the AB's recently he was pathetic.
Pollard has a further problem - he lost pace and has become a Morne clone with preciously little thinking rugby being in evidence.    He is in danger of losing out on playing for the Bulls next year with Boshoff being on contract with the B ulls.
Mitchell is trying to get the Bulls out of playing 19th century rugby - as was caustically remarked during the match yesterday between the Bulls and the Stormers.   The Bulls backline was spectacular and  with the progress made would be a force to reckon with next year in Super Rugby.   Be it as it may - there may not be even a franchise future for Pollard in the Bulls team  unless Pollard shows drastic improvement on what he produces at present.    Is he another great prospect at 19 going sour early?   Another Frat Fransie in the making?
I think that we actually have two interesting prospects coming through the ranks s- lets see what Willemse and Bosch produce next year.   My guess is that both would turn out to be better flyhalfs than Jantjies.     

 
Jantjies runs laterally ... he crabs across and when he does that he's obviously looking to off load with his Spencer "flippie, flippie" passes ... he's an easy read ... an open book ... it may work on ocassion at a lesser level of play. 

Jantjies is one of many BIG problems that need to be addressed. He plays a massive role in stagnating an already pathetic backline. Getting rid of him would be huge step forward.
