When the late President Mandela was in hospital in July - there were all kinds of talk on this site about cancellation of Super 15 matches should he pass away. One wonders why that kind of discussion cause so much panic and generalizations.
Regrettably the great man has passed away on Thursday evening - while a cricket ODI was in progress - but nobody was aware of it at the game. At this stage -
* the Nedbank Golf Classic is being played;
* there is the Sevens Rugby tournament at Nelson Mandela stadium being played tomorrow and Sunday; and
* the next ODI against India is on Sunday.
There is no indications of any cancellation of any of the above. The golf went on this morning after a minute of silence was observed and after some short speeches by Ernie Els and other SA players. Els - who met Mandela a number of times - was nearly in tears though.
There is a movie about President Mandela showing and when asked the family advised that the movie should proceed and not be withdrawn s a mark of respect.
The moral of the story is - why do we make some wild comments about issues on his site?
