I heard somewhere that Meyer thinks of Etzebeth and PSDT as 5 locks, I hope this isn't the case.

@Shezza, if the two of them are indeed the future, then surely one of them has to be a no5, unless you have found a way to configure a scrum with two no 4 locks.

What are you on about? What I said was that I heard somewhere that Meyer is going to play the best out of the two at 5, but as I implied it's just a rumour.

What are you on about? Surely, if they are our future lock pairing, then one has to be no 4 and one has to be no 5. Not so?

Well what I heard was that he was going to put one at 5 and bench the other, due to the fact that we don't have many decent 5's and we needed a good substitute as well that could play both positions to a good standard.

Maybe it would be best to ignore rumours and see what happens. That is the best way to decide which one should be the 5, in any case, IMO.

This was the reporter's own attention seeking intro to the article:
"Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer was as guarded as always, but he
did not rule out the possibility of recalling another World Cup winner."
These were Heyneke Meyer's words as quoted in the article:
"You should speak to the player and his union about him coming back - it is not in my hands,"
"I've always believed that we need quality No.5 locks in this country," (Is he the only one who believe that? Anybody who disagree with that would be a complete idiot, IMO.)
"If you are good enough and old enough, you can play. He [Matfield] has always been a quality player and he has also been fit."
"I've also heard the rumours and it will be interesting to see if he is going to play."
Their is nothing suggesting that Meyer approached Matfield and asked him to start getting himself in shape for an imminent call-up to the Bok squad.

Yeah, you are right. it's journo trying to create a story from nothing.
These stories then take on a life of their own as each journalist quotes the other journalist. Cyber-space makes this type non-story get more attention than it should.
