For more than two seasons now, Willie le Roux has impressed with his ball-running abilities, so much so that he has now been selected as a Springbok. Most would agree that whether he's been playing at fullback or wing, Le Roux has shown tremendous acceleration, a great eye for a gap and strength in the tackle.
What a pity we hardly ever see those wonderful running skills from Le Roux anymore. Pretty much from the day he made the Springbok team, Le Roux has decided that he's no longer going to run around or through opposition defenders, no, he's going to kick little chip kicks over their heads! Who needs to run when you can chip kick over the opposition . . . whether you're defending inside your own 22 or on the attack just a few metres from the opposition try-line. Chip kicks are the way to go! Lets try another chip kick! The last one was crap but this one might be better . . . oh dear, crap again . . . well lets try another chip kick then! Pass me the ball so I can try another chip kick!
Get a grip Willie. Go back and think about what it was that made you such an exciting and dangerous player. Here's a hint . . . it wasn't the clever little chip kicks!
