So apparently Jean de Villiers lamented the poor midfield defense of the Boks. Really? Here are the four breaches Australia made while the Esterhuizen/Kriel combination was on the field:

08:29 A8 makes yards through the tackle of S3 & S13

Only mentioned because Kriel was involved, but it was really Nyakane's tackle, which he missed. Kriel hung on to slow down the opponent.

17:23 A12 breaks inside S12 on the drift, S6 covering the inside channel but misses his tackle

Esterhuizen and Kriel are drifting out for wide defense here as the Boks are outnumbered 4-3 on the outside (a 4 on 2 if Esterhuizen went for Kerevi and the pass went outside, you can see the Aussies outside calling for the ball). The ball goes to Kerevi who breaks inside. No real problem as the inside channel was covered by Elstadt, which would have stopped Kerevi on the Bok 22, but he misses his tackle. Lood cleans up with a good tackle.

17:39 A12 through between S6 & S7

This is the break that set up the disallowed Australia try. Kerevi slips between Elstadt and Steph.

21:37 A12 slips tackle of S15

Kerevi slips Gelant's tackle and releases HP who makes good meters.

And that's it. Those are the clean meters Aus made. So pray tell, where was the big defensive breakdown in midfield that Jean was referring to? The only telling break of the game in this period for Australia was from phase play between the two flanks. Let's be lenient and score another clean break for Kerevi against Esterhuizen if you want to ignore the defensive situation they were dealing with and the fact that Elstadt was right there to defend that channel anyway.

Good luck Pakie. If you want this to penetrate beneath the dense geologic layers of Lügnerin's cranial mass, you need the appropriate equipment:

Take some holy water with you. Just in case. God speed!

Another Pakie analysis and Esterhuizen did not feature in any defensive moves other than to drift out.  I would rather believe De Villiers than him.

Do you really think De Villiers is a liar?

Then tell us where these other incidents occurred.

Yes Mike, debate like an adult and bring your facts instead of these childish questions and accusations. If you have instances of our midfield defense failing, then bring the match time stamps so that they can be reviewed.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean, by the way:

Esterhuizen did not feature in any defensive moves other than to drift out

De Villiers said what he did and looking at what actually happened he was correct in his assessment during half-time.   The problem was not the tackles the centers made or missed it was gaps created that was actually covered  by the forwards.

It looks like Lügnerin's long list of gaffs is about to expand.

Listen to this:

"I would rather believe De Villiers than him. Do you really think De Villiers is a liar?"

Now this is funny. He would rather believe Jean's very quick assessment in real time over a carefully gathered analysis reviewing film. He would rather do this because he likes what it entails, not because it is accurate. He follows this up by asking us, "Do you really think Jean is a liar?". Now it's a matter of who is lying, not who is right or wrong. Manipulation in a bid to smear Pakie as dishonest, to coerce other members to question Pakie's character and disregard his points without further investigation. I personally find this disgusting. Yet he does it each and every day.

So show them to us. Where are they? Stop telling us what someone else said and bring your evidence. I found one instance where our centers' first defensive line failed at 17:23. Where are the others?

Kerevi made 3 clean breaks (two of them in that 20 second period between 17:20 and 17:40), Kuridrani 0. So where are all these other gaps that our midfield supposedly left?

Jean is excused as he didn't have the benefit of a second viewing of the game as a whole. On a live viewing you tend to form opinions about the match and player performance based on a few isolated incidents, like Kerevi's two line breaks in quick succession. Those were not the norm, as outside that 20 seconds he only made one other line break in over 80 minutes of rugby.

So Jean  saw what happened - but did not see what he saw as happening.  Weird argument.  If he did check it up afterwards he would still have said the same because whata ctually happened is not what is advertised on this site. .

Once again, Lügnerin is found a liar but will not concede and in so doing slanders the work done by another member. It's always the same lazy people doing the slandering.

As things stand you have provided zero evidence to the contrary. Pakie laid it all out there. You are lazily hanging your hat on Jean, who was more busy commentating than analysing. Try harder. Best yet, don't even bother. Save yourself the effort. You'll only find that Pakie was right, and that'll make you even angrier.

The fact is that De Villiers is wrong and the three Idiot Speakers are right,  Is this wrong too?

"

3. Defensive frailties

A negative from a Springbok perspective was the fact that they slipped several tackles, especially in the first half where the Wallabies were doing most of the playing.

According to the tournament's official website, the Springboks missed 26 tackles compared to the 15 of the Wallabies.

The All Blacks lie in wait next weekend and similar statistics on defence would be disastrous for the Boks.

You post a link saying the Boks missed tackles, then take a big leap to connect that to Jean. The result...

I'll give you a 6 for sticking the landing!

There were 12 backline missed tackles:

  1. H Jantjies 0
  2. E Jantjies 3
  3. M Mapimpi 1
  4. A Esterhuizen 1
  5. J Kriel 2
  6. S Nkosi 2
  7. W Gelant 3
Of the forwards, Elstadt missed 5. Those are the standout missed tackles. Of course, the stats don't log the clean breaks achieved by the opposition. Steph, Elstadt, Orie, Kriel and Coetzee are guilty in that regard.

Have a nice day. Failing that, have a Xanax.
