Perhaps some of you have seen the Dos Equis beer ads which introduce " the most interesting man in the world". According to the ads this paragon of interest is so interesting....
At museums, he’s allowed to touch the art. . . . His blood smells like cologne. . . . Sharks have a week dedicated to him. . . . He once had an awkward moment, just to see how it feels. . . . The police often question him, just because they find him interesting.
Fun stuff. But perhaps the most interesting guy on the Planet is now Elon Musk. a Pretoria High School Graduate, who made a fortune in software. He the founded the Tesla Motor Company.....the success story on Wall Street this year. And also Space X a company that designs rockets . But perhaps his most interesting idea is the hyperloop.
"On 12 August 2013, Musk unveiled a proposal for a new form of transportation between the Greater Los Angeles area and the San Francisco Bay Area, after being disappointed with the approved California High-Speed Rail system. He named it "hyperloop," a hypothetical subsonic air travel machine that stretches approximately 350 miles (560 km) from Sylmar (a northern district of Los Angeles) to Hayward (east of San Francisco) and would theoretically allow commuters to travel between the cities in 30 minutes or less, providing a shorter traveling time than even a commercial airplane can currently provide.[47] Musk's proposal, if technologically feasible at Musk's claimed costs, would make travel cheaper than any other mode of transport for such long distances. Musk estimated the total cost of the system at $6 billion, but this estimate is controversial. The system is proposed to use a partial vacuum to reduce aerodynamic drag, which it is theorized would allow for high speed travel with relatively low power.[48] It was proposed to rely completely on solar energy for all power requirements"
And once upon a time he was a kid in Pretoria....quite something!
