The team is 1 point behind and there is 10 minutes to go.    The behind side has forward domination throughout the game.

The team is awarded a penalty and the behind team decides to kick a goal.   If it was two or 2 minutes t go - sure a kick at goa; is the logical thing to do - but earlier than that it is stupid.  Keep the leading team under pressure and nearer the end of the game they will give away another penalty.

A goal kick means that you are back in your own 22 where you are likely the team under pressure,

A goal kick for a two point lead loses more games than it won.   I did not find  any confirming data - but in games I watched  I have seen a large number of games where that penalty kick resulted in losses.

Actually if you simply catch the kick off and either put it into touch....or kick long into the opponents 22, you really shouldn't be 'back in your own 22'.

How many rimes does that happen Mozart?  Very few times and of you kick ball into touch you are handing over possession.

It shouldn't be hard to do but I tend to agree with your conclusion, if not all the details of your argument. Better to go for the jugular unless you are close to the last act. If you have a strong maul the chances of getting a another penalty or a try are high.
