The myth Josh Strauss ends in two games?

 I believe not! The things going great for him are:

1. He is young and he only started playing Super Rugby last year.

2. He is a Professional.

3. He is dedicated and has a "never say die attitude".

I believe now with Schalk injured he should be considered for national duty and a leadership role! What is there to lose?

He has little experience as a leader. He is unproven under real pressure. He has the media concealing his limitations. He is not delivering on the field. There is very much to lose for he is not test material.

 He is the current Lion Captain, he captained the Lions to win the Currie Cup last year, he can play at number 8 and also on the Flanks - how many positions can Spies play?

The lad is an ordinary talent. Yes I know he looks the real deal in his beard.....but he was stripped three times yesterday. That never happens to Schalk. Big, slow and not particularly hard, with no vision. He is not half the player Deysel is....and Deysel was  a bit of a flop at test level, man handled by Andy Powell.

Can someone please tell what Josh does exceptionally better than other Loosies in the same position? Forget comparisons between him and Spies, I've dissed Spies awhile ago as a non factor so it's not hard to best him. I also don't regard CC form as meritorious.

Josh is not the finished product by a long shot - but if you want to build depth, you cannot go past him! Give some markers to achieve - bulk, speedwork, mongrel at the breakdown, organizational skills, ref management, consistency, media skills etc and play him against Argentina and then write him off if you want! Another thing going for him is he is very level headed!

 Moz are you telling me Josh is slower than Schalk, Alberts, Vermeulen and Deysel - honestly?

He never spilt the ball once. The one you have him spilling was not the case, he tries to offload it and makes a hash of it.

Never saw him miss a single tackle

Okay Dave go on believing this journeyman is test material.....I can almost hear the bee in your bonnet. But when I told you Deysel would never make it, you didn't believe me either. And Deysel is much better than Strauss.

firstly to be captain you need to have cemented your position in the national team.. so he will still need to prove himself at test level.. sure he has great leadership skills but to get into the Bok loose trio you need to be one hell of a player - and we have so many good lossies.

i dont think Strauss is good enough.. yet... Deysel is better, Alberts is better, Schalk, Juan, brussow all better.

 Richie McCaw says," There is no point in trying to be a captain if you are not worth your place in the side....... you have to be good enough to be out on the field in your own right and you have to be playing well. If you are struggling with your own game it makes it so much harder to smile and help others." according to this criteria IMO Josh is worth his place in the Lions Team and maybe also the Boks?

I refuse to judge a player based on CC form so with regard to Josh I'm quite happy to follow his progress through to the end of S15. Thus far he's yet to convince me that he deserves a Bok slot.

 Moz you have me confused with someone else. While I rate Deysel he has never made my Bok A or B side ever.......I prefer Spies, Daniel, Louw, Schalk, Alberts, Potgieter, Vermeulen, Kankan, J. Strauss, Brussouw and the new kids like Arno Botha, CJ Stander, Kolisi and Coetzee

 interesting to see the Josh Strauss interview about the Sharks's game and then his coach's interview. Also interesting to see in the short clip how he conducts himself on the field and how his players flock to him - he certainly commands their attention.

Also amazed to see John Mitchell actually talk and clearly too LOL!

I have no doubt that players respect him, but he reminds me of a Van Heerden, but of lesser quality. Why I like players like Juan over Strauss for captain is because they, particularly Juan himself, stand tallest nearly at all times. Great leaders, but tremendous players. Juan is the most consistent test player I have ever seen.

 I can't believe it Aristokrat, Jantjies is injured at the 11th hour - unbelievable! I wish we have the overabundance of 1st 5/8s that your team the Cheetahs have. Jantjies is my first 5/8 in Fox Fantasy Super Rugby and Strauss (Cheetahs) my hooker and captain for my Fantasy Team! I wish the Lions and the Cheetahs all the best as I am backing them to beat the brumbies!
