The chase on the hack ahead by Bjorn Basson, JJ Engelbrecht showed he was the fastest person on the field.

He left the Italians in the dust and looked like he could easily outpace Basson.

I said easily, not just outpace.

That said, he then blew the try....blew another try.....and almost let in one by not taking the kickoff.

Come now Moz, its a rugby ball and it does not always bounce the way you want it to......he did damn well to get close to scoring that try, you can't point fingers at a player that does not manage to gather a moving ball on the ground at full pace, much like his almost try in the corner. His pace got him close, sadly in diving and being tackled he lost possession, it happens. JJ had a damn fine game.

That failure to gather the kick-off was poor, but it showed that he had not played wing in some time.

The bounce was not good when he tried to collect the hack by Basson. If the bounce had been decent I think he would have got it.

I am sure that he would be first to admit he could have got the try down the right hand touchline. Bobby Skinstad commented that he should have dived before he was tackled and he would have made it. He was looking good on the wing when moved their late in the game. I am sure he will learn from that experience and get the try when in that situation again. His pace is what made it even possibale to get the oppertunity that many would not have got.

Yeah he might have made it if he had dived earlier, its one of those touch and go decisions. Bob was speaking shit about the fact that he dived once past the line - that was not the case.

Either way, none of those incidents are negatives against JJ - it was more about his pace to get into those positions in the first place. The lad has serious pace, which will always be an asset at 13

I think that Jj made a big difference. This Italian team is a completely different and better than the teams before them. They starved the boks for almost 20 min in the second half.

I really like the look of the back line at the moment. Wonder what will do with frans steyn once he is fit, but I think we found our long term fullback.

He's very fast and looked one of the better players out there today.

Yes he made some errors, he had some bad luck re the bounce of the ball but he did have to switch positions and it's not always easy to change running lines/defensive capabilities etc from one position to another, especially when you are new to the International arena.

He looks promising.

If JJ ENgelbrecht was the fastest guy on the field then we have one slow fucking team. Just a shame his hands are not that quick

The onluy backline player that was a mess yesterday - despite the intercept try - was really Basson and to a lesser degree Morne - who kicked aimlessly far too often. Basson missed an early try by not catching the Le Roux's pass. He also messed up badly with that yellow card and was really bad in that messed up try - but Engelbrecht also missed the boat in that regard - the two interfered with each other - which did not help the situation either way. On the whole was not impressed by Basson and would definitely support his replacement by Mvovo.

What rubbish.....Basson did brilliantly in the Engelbrecht non try. He dribbled and fly kicked the ball with great control for a long distance. What Engelbreecht did was not in any sense his problem. Keep it honest and fair please..

Mozart. The truth hurts. He turned over the ball 4 times due to not holding onto the ball. And Engelbrecht is not quick its just the others that are slow.

But for a 13 he got some decent pace. Like a Andre Snyman. Maybe he will turn into a Snyman as well now that will be a bonus

I wouldn't say Engelbrecht outpaced Basson. As Basson was kicking the ball he was running in the direction of where the ball was going on a angle while Engelbrecht was running straight, that made it easier for him to get to the ball first. Overall Engelbrecht was decent but he has the potential to be an effective player, he doesn't only have good pace but he is also physical at times. He had a opportunity to get a hat-trick but he wasted 2 tries which he couldn't finish, handling was a issue. Engelbrecht did well to support the ball carrier which then resulted in a try. Its good that quality centres are coming through, we have a lot of depth in that position, its just about giving them a chance now. Hopefully Serfontein gets more game time in the next match.

Actually Mr Contrary I made all those points long before you, including the Snyman analogy. But you rarely have a conversation with another person by disagreeing with everything they say. Find some common ground.....and for heaven sake, produce your own ideas, don't only piss on those of others.
