He got caught from behind today which is concerning. It was an open run to the try line that an international test standard winger should have scored. It almost seemed he did not back his pace.

If Moodie is already slowing down at a young age, then Wing might not be in his best position.
He has been effective on attack at 13, but there are question marks on his defence when at 13.

AM looks like he has put on weight and has shed a few yards.

Which try are you talking about? In his intercept try, Moodie ran away and scored with no one catching him.

In the first half, Moodie had an open run to the try line and was caught from behind.
He ran about 80 metres and was about 10 metres from the line when he tried a grubber.

He did score the 2nd half-try with a good intercept. Overall he had a good game, but he did not score in the first half - and he did make that passing blunder that blew an overlap.

Watching it again, the person was running at an angle, but he did appear to be running faster then Moodie.

Start at minute: 40:35

Ok I see….the guy was coming at a angle cutting him off….but he kinda looks slower there. Not running at full pace, it looks like that…with the intercept try he was running faster.

He has never struck me as particularly fast. The speed with which the other wing closed on him there was noticeable. How was the very late tackle on him in that instance not penalized though ?

Moodie's is faster than Am ever was. He's the perfect 13 as far as I'm concerned.

Damm Right Blob….Henco is making a strong case for being the whole package at 13…. We already know that Rassie likes Moodie and has tried him at 13 together with Esterhuisen vs AB at Twickenham. They did really well. Then also Henco was at the Alignment camps. But unluckily he got injured… Rassie speaks highly of him…

LOL. "A wall of 200kg."

Yeah I'm sure Henry Slade's limp arm weighs 100kg. It was a good break. The hype ruins it.

Jake in his diplomatic way has told Moodie that he is fat and needs to stay away from the buffet next time he is away with the Boks In typical Jake the Snake fashion he makes his comment public - what a prick

Moodie's size and speed are just fine.

He's a gliding runner, so needs that extra bit of mass to glance defenders off of his swerves.

He should have been starting at 13 for the Boks this year....but Rassie owes Jessie and Am for winning him the WC.

But...

Fassi is making a habit out of picking perfect lines and creating scores. He runs at nice 45s, where he could cut back or pass out wide...but the pace he does it at puts massive pressure on defenders.

...all I'm saying is that his 13 play is not to be overlooked.

See first try for reference...

And here, for you guys saying Moodie is slow...

Only Williams is faster than Fassi for the Boks...

See how there is very little in it over 50m between Fassie and Moodie...

Thunk the topic of discussion was a particular try in a specific game......I don't see anyone calling Moodie generally slow.

Perhaps there's a fitness issue who knows.

Hiya Bonehead

I'll keep it simple........have a look at the video again.....does it look like his slowing down with the tryline at his mercy......the evidence is crystal clear. Now grow up and do the mature thing or shut up and eat your crow.

Where have I said 'If Moodie is already slowing down at a young age...'? Thunk I said there might be a fitness issue.

And once again......I repeat.....Thunk the topic of discussion was a particular try in a specific game......I don't see anyone calling Moodie generally slow.

On second thoughts don't bother........just uppercut yourself.

Putting Moodie in the eyes publicly, saying he must stay away from the Buffet, is unprofessional. Tell the guy how you feel in private. But Rassie does exactly the same thing by swearing and humiliating a Bok player for causing a penalty, on a You Tube Video, at the Semi Final WC 23.

I said there isn't much between them...IE Fassi is a bit faster than Moodie, but Moodie ain't a slouch...considering he's only slightly slower than one of the fastest guys in our team.

'sakes...does one  have to draw pictures for you lot?

What huff are you talking about, VisKop?

Denise you remind me of this black chick that runs an institute I'm involved with. She's so worried that others will outshine her, so insecure about her own abilities, that she mostly rushes out of the gate and embarrasses herself. And she always ends up losing. Pick your battles, my girl.

Moodie was carrying the ball. This always favour's the chaser.

Moodie has the necessary pace for wing if needs be.

Well, Jake white said that was getting a bit fat and needed to lose some weight while he was at the Springbok camp, I also think the reason why he didn't feature for the boks was that he probably wasn't 100% this season after coming back from his injury.

If you look to the lead up to that play, Connacht breaks out and Moodie has to chase them 100 meters, 1 min later the ball pop ups onto Moodie side and he has a clear line. You can see his body hits the wall around 50 m run and then he just completely slows down 10 m out.

I don't think it is pace, I think it is fitness and he will probably have to drop of few kg's. That is the problem with these guys, If they put on too much muscle they tend to slow down and can't last.

Syia has the same problem. If you look at him under 25, he is really skinny, but then he bulked up and you would see him completely gassed around the 30 min mark with hands on his hips.

Some sense for a change, exactly my point. Might not even be a weight issue.

Well, unless you are a 200 m athlete, very hard to run full speed at that length. But he should have run that 100m under 11 sec and he would have been fine. But these days the guys only train 20 m and 40 m sprints as they hardly if ever get a chance to run that length with the modern defences

Bulky Boneheaded Rugby players are slow:) look no further than Lomp…. And then you have a Mostert tight like a tiger….durable and reliable. In the older days the guys were tough but gym was not the most important, NO, more important was mobility and durability…. Corne krige, Rassie Erasmus, Pieter Rossouw, warren whitely etc. All slimmer Rugby players that lasted longer. Nowadays it’s bulk up like you a bear….LOL what a joke…. I wonder how all these Rugby monsters get so big? They most probably all steroid kings…..yes sure bulk up a bit, but to a unnatural size that make you more injury prone, is A Grade BS …

Reaction time is more important than differences in outright speed…position and endurance are more important than differences in outright strength.

That’s what makes Kolbe so dangerous and Mostert so valuable.

In athletics competitors are released by the gun. In rugby vision can release a player like Kolbe long before others hear the proverbial gun.

The number 1 requirement for a winger is raw pace. If they get space, no one should be able to catch them from behind in the way that Moodie was taken down 5 metres from the line.

Moodie is a very good player, but there are concerns about his raw pace for a winger. He is no slouch, but is he fast enough to be a Bok wing.
