The lions have some pathetic supporters (like taipansy for example). If you doubt this consider the following ex supersport:

PE is not Jo’burg. On Saturday the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium’s turnstiles made that click sound more than 32 000 times. That is a number that would stagger those in charge of all Super Rugby venues, bar perhaps the ones in Cape Town and Pretoria in a good week (And Durban surely). Even more staggering when you consider that a large proportion of rugby viewers in this country feel that the home-side for that match-up shouldn’t even be playing in this competition.

In contrast, Ellis Park averaged a mere 8 234 spectators whenever the Force came to face the team representing the world’s biggest city (if you’re willing to believe Wikipedia, and discount settlements situated on a river, lake or coastline.)

32 000 versus 8 000. On the face of things the Kings, in their debut season, can rake in gate-takings that the Lions would have been happy with in four years

The Lions supporters sold their team down the river.  Most are of the fair weather sort.

The Kings played with more passion and commitment than the Lions have done for many years. no wonder no one bothers to turn up at Eliss Park

Cant really agree Sharkbok. The Lions have played some entertaining rugby. 2012 was very unfortunate for them as they had a good team but were decimated by injury.

However the supporters have been fair weather types who didnt stick with them during the hard times.

Lets not get carried away here. Yes the Kings won, and yes I said they'd lose, but this Force side is weak, even by Force standards! They did not even have a recognised kicker in the team, and they are going to get their asses handed to them countless times this year. Beating the weakest Aussy side in 10 years is hardly a big achievement! As for the Kings,  WHAT DO YOU EXPECT? In a years time when the Lions play their first game of the 2014 Season, I can guarantee you, there will be a lot more than 8000 people at Ellis park.

And as Beans rightly points out, the Lions team last year were ravaged by injuries. Well done to the kings on beating a totally rubish side....but that will be their last victory of the season.

Bluebok dont get me wrong. I can never support the way the queens got into Super 15 rugby.

The Lions fans never supported them though and that ment they had less money for players. Yes I do hope the Lions are back in 2014 and their supporters return in force.

Like you I still have severe doubts about the abilty of the queens -  in my opinion to be anything but wooden spoonists.

If they earn a Super 15 spot in future on merit I will support them.

I've been a Lions man all my life and will remain one ... win or lose ... tantrum or no tantrum ...

Things is ... I dunno if you've noticed ... BUT ... they aren't competing in this years super rugby tournament.

So it's a little doff walking around in my Lions jersey ... don't you think??

I have selected a team that's in fact competing this year ... one I can cheer for with enthusiasm ... got their awesome home strip and all ... and strutted my stuff last week Friday with it on
