and the Brumbies, the latest from John Mitchell whom I rate a fine coach.
"The New Zealand coach, however, didn’t hide his admiration for White’s team and the way they play -- simply as they are in a similar situation as a side bereft of big name stars who have gotten down to work for each other and have found the fruits of their success because of it."
“They’ve got a lot of energy, and they play with a lot of heart,” Mitchell said of the Brumbies, “Clearly they have got very few reputations and that impresses me. They are a bunch of guys who play for each other. That’s something we haven’t achieved this year yet, and that’s up to us to try and achieve over what’s left of the competition, starting this week.”
The Brumbies are one of three teams I most admire and respect, the others being the Cheetahs and the Lions, unlike big name teams they play off a limited budget, have no stars and utilise their limited resources to play as a team. It begs the question what could be achieved if the coaches of these teams had the resources of their counterparts. It also goes a long way in making a statement about the ability of the respective coaches of the three teams mentioned, that said, it underscores the fact that a team with star players doesn't necessarily equate to being a star team. Some of the big name teams and coaches should hang their heads in shame when reflecting on the above.
