The Pollard Lineout.....

I have no idea why this was tried, and in the last throw of the dice for the Boks. A proper lineout drive was the logical approach to drive over the line.

I think it was Jessie Kriel or Jantjies that did the support carry in the air. Surely you want to throw to the tallest person, that is ideally also strong enough to set up a rolling maul. Then have the props bind from the side with the other lock driving foward, and the loosies flanking the maul.

Pollard did win the lineout, and the scrumhalf got the ball, but about 5 metres was conceded- and it was backfoot ball.

It seemed to go to plan, but what exactly the plan was is unclear. It was the stupidest play I have ever seen. All it did was limit the options- because of the backline decision makers were now inside the lineout... So it ruled out the driving maul, and then it ruled out using the backline of quick first phase ball.

If the whole team was going to join the lineout to drive over the line, WTF throw it to a backline player. 

I do not know why - but I have one reason why I think it did happen.  A throw to where Mostert jump would never result in a driving maul at all.   

Against Wales, we had another Steph led maul fail. Mike, you blast both feet off time and time again. You always choose the topics which you are the least capable of debating. I hope you never stop. Knowing how worked up you become makes it all the more funny. 

The a have used numerous gimmicks in the line on this year. The more threatened Rassie feels, the more the gimmicks.

Cera, I believe its called an Aussie lineout. Or at least the 9 at the front of the lineout. We had Faf in alot of lineouts in one of the RC games. 

There were two driving mauls against Wales - in the case of the one who failed Etzebeth was the catcher - in the one Du Toit was the catcher there were some ground made and the maul would be called a success.

What is really funny is the fact that you do not een know what a driving maul is,  Really hilarious that one.

@Ceradunce, we know that you have never played rugby, so this is not something you will be able to comprehend. Why not have Faff or Papier jump in the lineout? 

It seemed like a joke, and Pollard seemed to be smiling when he jumped for the ball. 

The ball should have gone to Vermeulen, Steph Dutoit or Elizabeth , with props binding onto them. Having other players joining the lineout afterwards is an option- but jumping is non-sensical.

I don't recall Joost ever jumping in a lineout, but he was like a snake in his low body position and corkscrew motion  - so could have been a decent option to get over the line.
