Saffex selects , Taute, SP Marais, Visser, Andries Coetzee: Beeno agrees but adds Willie much to Saffex's annoyance who insists Willie must only play wing.

Sadly although the above candidates are all good and are indeed a step up from ZK we do not have a Andre Joubert, HO De Villiers,Percy Montgomery, Israel Dagg or Christian Cullen.

I believe this is the weakest link in the SA side and once a star is found and cultivated then I believe you'll see a differerent side....

Could Willie be the man...maybe...Monty started as a centre (if I remember correctly) and did not impress in early days. Wings are not in short supply and maybe Willie should be groomed for this role...he has the x factor and an aura of stardom in his style...there's no question of that. Could this be the answer...maybe.

Seb

Montgomery did start at center and was a roaring success in at least two tests under Du Plessis.   Mallett moved him to number 15 where he became a legend - after something of a drop down in the years 2000-2004.   When White brought him back into contention.   Monty was a very clever player -  and would have been successful in most positions in the backline.

Saffex at times has some weird ideas about players.   I liked what I saw of Taute when he played full back for the Lions in 2011 and 2012.   Because of injuries, the Lions  moved him to center - where to my mind he was a flop for both the Lions and subsequently the Springboks.

Because of the Jantjies fiasco and his subsequent injury he did not have much playing time for the Stromer in 2012.    From the little I saw of him in 2013  I was disappointed - his speed was less than I can remember and he developed the Francois Steyn psyche - do not try and create and run into space - run directly at the first tackler and think you can run over or through him - none ever worked and the result was the inevitable crashball.   His line kicking was also not really up to standard - if he tried to make relieving kicks it would stay in field - if he tried strategic kicks it would go out of touch on the full.

That is why I said he can play himself back into contention this year - but I think he has a mountain to climb.

Saffex other choice of Marais is near the mark.   I saw him playing for the Kings in Super 15 and in subsequent matches for the Sharks.   In many ways he reminds me of our better full backs over the years - a very clever player and one o watch out for the future.   Visser is still very young - but he looks like he has potential.   He was kept out of the Bulls Super 15 team by Kirchner - but whenever he did play he showed potential and he was in fact a better full back than Kirchner was.   Andries Coetzee was the second choice full back of the Lions and he is not really in contention for anything.

You cannot only count on one full back - so we need to evaluate what comes out of Super 15 this year.   I have  feeling we may end up with Le Roux, Lambie and Marais as our potential full backs.

We will have to find replacements for a few players in the Springbok set up - that is why proper evaluation of player performances in Super 15 this year will have to be done with honesty and objectivity.

I am confident that we have the players to take over from the player who showed performance deficiencies last year - but the upcoming Super series would show us the way forward.

top three options would be willie, taute and lambie.

willie is still unproven IMO, reality is Boks faced a shitload of minnow teams in 2013, and during the RC/4nats, willie only played on the wing.
is he a work in progress regarding fullback??? definitely, but he has been a weak defensive player, even though he has shown a lot of nice things out on the wing with ball in hand.
IMO ive seen enough things from willie on the win that hes jumped in JP in my pecking order.

if taute can regain some of that top form he had before he was injured, he wouldnt be too far from the picture as the Boks fullback.

lambie is a nice ace up ur sleeve to have in case the Boks get desperate and need a quick fix at fullback, but flyhalf is where i really see lambie growing.
hes kind of like barret in way, a great fullback option, but No10 is his specialty.

Wrong, I never said Willie should only play wing, in fact I prefer him at fullback.

I select Willie on the wing to accommodate Taute at 15.......that's my simple reasoning, but would be more than happy with Willie at 15.

He is better than Andre Joubert and Percy - HO cannot be compared with modern players

If Frans Steyn ever returns to being the fit player he was in his early twenties then I would back him for the Boks fullback spot for 2014 and the World Cup with Willie Le Roux taking up the wing position with JP dropping to the bench. It may be too late to try JP as an outside centre at this stage for the boks
Frans can be good at inside centre as well but sometimes hogs the ball too much and becomes over predictable.
a fit Frans Steyn is very solid in defense at the back on positional play and tackling. He also has to rocket launcher boot to play a territorial game. Oppositions team will think twice about kicking for territory with him at the back.
a Fit Steyn is also good on attack in space and would combine well with Willie LeRoux .

Simple really. Kirchner at 15, Willie and Habana on the wing. That's the best back three we have fielded in far too long a time! Without a turnstile at 13 it will prove very useful. Willie unfortunately only offers those chips which failed when fronted with stern opposition. In the meantime, we wait for another to take the reigns. It may well even be Goosen who I feel is much better suited to the position.

"Simple really. Kirchner at 15". Kirchner is very average and their many players in South Africa better than him. Maybe one day when he learns how to pass he can be taken more seriously. Until such time he will rely on Willie Leroux making him look good.
Goosen better suited to the position. Why? He is the best flyhalf in South Africa. His only problem is that he is injury prone

Clearly you've lost the plot, Buggered.

No way, no how should Kirchner EVER have been made a Bok. In fact I'd go as far as to strip him of all his Bok caps and correct the History books to such an extent that his name never comes up when discussing past Springboks.

A second rate club player with a filthy hairdo. No more. He contributes nothing to the mix and was found wanting against the All Blacks last year. I would have him shot at dawn.

The 15 jersey is taken. By Willie Le Roux. He made it his own. The few chances he got was all he needed.

Why are we even discussing this.

I see there are still quite a few Fat Fransie Steyn supporters on this site. It stuns me that this fat lump is still in contention for national duty. How is that possible??

I would have him lined up side by side with Kirchner.

Taute is not in the picture at all. There's just too much for him to do, especially with the 15 jersey already taken.

We're sorted at 15.

We need to look at 10 and 13 now as well as an additional 9 in the Bok backline.

"Montgomery did start at center and was a roaring success in at least two tests under Du Plessis.   Mallett moved him to number 8 where he became a legend - after something of a drop down in the years 2000-2004.".....says the OOM.

The OoM's tenuous grasp on reality seems to be failing.

CleanCut, Le Roux made more mistakes at fullback in any one test before the EOYT at 15 than Kirchner has made in his entire test career! A perfect example of bias. When Willie was a liability, it was just the pains we had to endure for genius. When Kirchner does anything right? It gets burried away with much bitterness. Very sad. I'm not saying that Kirchner is perfect, far from it, but the worst? Not even close. The only other fullback post-Monty that has done us proud has been Aplon.

Mozart

Just a reminder of the 1997 test where the Aussies were beaten 63 - 22, the last game where Du Plessis was coach.   Monty scored a long distance try - but the question is - in which position did he start for the Springboks - he started at CENTER.

Same situation was in the Lions last test of 1997.   Go back please an find out what the real situation was.   Your grasp on reality is non-existent.

Thanks for he real entertainment provided by you on this site.   You are funny beyond belief - coming up with the latest Kirchner funny - that after the Morne Steyn one.

Are you a real life comedian using farce for entertainment purposes?

Both Kirchner and Morne Steyn are below par on international level and those are facts.   Cleancut gave a very true breakdown on Morne and his last two years were disastrous .

Incidentally Aplon did not make the grade when given the opportunity to play in tests in 2009-10.   Aplon is a top class Super seies and CC player - who failed to make the step up to test level.

Damn. Can you believe it? Mozart points out his silly mistake and then he goes on and try to kak on Mozart's head without even noticing what Mozart was pointing out to the plank. And then he wants an apology as well. FFS. Open your eyes and try to comprehend what you are reading.

General, that cullid brother of mine is too wisselvallig. He plays one good game and three kak ones. He must be more consistent and then someone must go teach him how to tackle as well. I think there by the boere in bulls country that sickness is spreading because Morne suffers the same illness.

I am sick and tired of your shit - you are not as think as a plank - jy is to toe soos 'n kleios se gat.

Let me quote for you - doos _

"Montgomery earned his first Springbok cap against the British and Irish Lions in July 1997 as an outside centre. He played at the 1999 Rugby World Cup finals and had amassed 50 caps by the end of 2001."

Exactly what I wrote.   He also played  overseas from 2002 to 2005 -  when he was not rated highly because h was playing for MEDIOCRE NH clubs.

Now go back to your room in the lunatic asylum where you belong and stop talking kak on this site.

I think that Monty played overseas somewhere between
