The question is – what has Erasmus learnt from the game yesterday?

I would say that the most prominent issues he did learn are the following:-

*      That the junk players selected by previous coaches were indeed duds to be avoided at all costs.   These players include Mohoje, Rallepele, Bosch, Jantjies, Ismaiel  and  Kriel.

*      Most of the quota players selected by him are not international standard – aside from the above players  like Nche, Ismaiel, Gelant and Orie should be included in the list of failures.   The test could in fact be used as proof that he tried to use them – but they were not up to standard.

*      That one cannot play a team where the loosies misfired and he will have very limited options in that component of the game.

*       That we have a problem in certain positions – aside from the loosies already mentioned SA has problems  at flyhalf – neither of Jantjies nor Robert du Preez meet requirements.   Wiillemse will np doubt be part of the answer in future, but he may even have to be thinking other options as well.  

*       Loosie selections remain a problem and he will have to start looking seriously at that problem as well.   He is stuck with Kolisi - but what about the rest?   I think that J-L du Preez  may be one answer – but there are doubts as to whether Vermeulen would make the grade.   Untiil he can find a reasonable combination of loosies that can be used in ball protection and recovery as well that problem will persist.  This problem has been in evidence for the full terms of Meyer and Coetzee as well so the matter needs to be relooked at objectively.

*      Centers must play as a combination – there was no combination yesterday and both  Esterhuizen and Kriel played a role in that   The fact is the players are not really used to each other and that showed yesterday.       They may remain around – but a proper center  pairing must still be found. 

*       Continuous kicking is not the answer – especially in the case of poor execution.    Van  Zyl  was obviously instructed  to use box kicking, but circa 30% of his kicks were  mere ball possession hand-overs because of deficient execution.    The kicking game of Jantjies was BS – plain and simple,   The box kicking issue was complicated by the poor loosie combination incapable of ball protection and recovery as well.

Commiserations to you chaps ,I thought you guys had it in the bag .

I was not surprised about the result and as a matter of fact said that the SA team will lose.    The selections were in fact rubbish and I still believe that Erasmus chose them team to prove that they were in fact deficient.   

I remember a few years ago when a young kid called Johnny Sexton was added to the Irish squad.  He was challenging our Munster legend Ronan OGara.  Johnny made a lot of mistakes at the start and we all though he was rubbish.  We were rather critical of him.  Now Johnny plays quite well he just needed time and experience.

For such a novice International team i though you guys did well.  You physically dominated them and were caught out a few times but you looked the stronger team throughout the match.  I saw a lot of potential there once you clean up the silly errors and get more experience,  I know you have a lot of guys rested for next week but this groups has the makings of a very good squad.     I think the you will be hard pressed at the world cup as i think it will take a little longer to reach your potential.  CleverMike i thought your scores were rather harsh.  As a former center i really liked Esterhuizen.  Wonder if he is free for Munster we could use him.

Esterhuizen in my opinion was the best back out there.

Kriel still can't tackle for toffee and Bosch is still not ready for International rugby (He may never be).

Can we not transplant Jonty Rhodes' hands on Dan Du Preez. He impresses in defence but c ows udders for hands.

The real problem he has with me is that I am objective and does not look with blinkes at his favourite Lions players - I see their good performances as well as their poor ones.    The fact is that he went for me all the time because I do not think Dreyer is good enough to play for the Springboks and I also have a real regard for other players he hates with a vengeance.

Fact is I have a reason for rating players and that do not fall  for example  for BS like one good run ending in a ball possession loss.     

Well ... there you have it.
