It turns out now that there are three angles to the reason for Steyn's departure:-
*   He wanted double pay for image rights from both SARU and the Sharks - something SARU would not do - so he was really money-grabbing after playing only 5 tests over a two-year period for the Springboks and under-performing in all five of them;
*    he was not accorded the respect he thinks is his due - what this means is he was demanding all kinds of things and did not get it. probably sitting out of training like he does with White and getting away with it; and
*    a third undisclosed reason his father would not talk about.
We have a player here that is rating himself much higher than his performances warrant and  making demands that could not reasonably be met by Meyer and SARU. since the best he could hope for in the RC would be a bench selection and even that was dou btful since he seriously under-performed in Super 15.  .       

So I was right when I said it wasn't only money. If Steyn was happy in the team, money would not have dislodged him. I don't say he is right, in fact I believe he will regret this. But I have dealt with similar situations many times....with a little empathy they can usually be resolved. It's a shame for Bok rugby.

By now you should realize - and so should Steyn - that no individual player is bigger than the game.    If he - as White sad - did not get the respect he deserves from Meyer - he may even be right.  Meyer's respect is limited to the Blue Bulls and ex-Blue Bulls players he coached 10 years ago - any younger player needs to know his place.
However, back to Francois Steyn. he apparently thinks what he says is law and Meyer would not fall for it.   He had problems relating to his relationship with Plumtree and Plumtree got all the blame for it.   As long as the coach plays along with his wishes and allows him all he wants - everything is fine - otherwise he becomes a brat that throws his toys out of the cot.
Based on performances this year there are better centers and flyhalfs around then him and it would have been a shame for Bok rugby if he stays and was selected on reputation and not performance.        

Well let's see if Serfontein can step into his shoes as you predict.

If performances this year is anything to go by - Serfontein was consistently better than Steyn.  Steyn produced nothing of note last Saturday - so an average performance by Serfontein against a  much stronger team will be a huge improvement on what Steyn routinely produced this year.
Wonder whether Meyer balled him out about his performance last Saturday and he got miffed and thew his toys out of the cot?  Just wondering?

Hahaha.....an average performance against a " much stronger team" already the bar is being lowered.

 It can never be lower than Fat Fransie's performances this year at center were and specifically his performance last Saturday.   You tried to misread what i said and that is really a joke.   Average performance by Serfontein will be miles better than Steyn's shoddy performances were not only this year - but ever since his return from France.
