When it became known that Bakkies Botha is included in the EOYT squad - I was very cynical about it and said that Botha at 34 years of age does not deserve selection as he is really no investment insofar as selection for the 2015 WC is concerned. Mozart went off his trolley and accused me of criticizing the great Bakkies.
However, in a more recent comment on the issue of Bakkies vs Etzebeth Saffex stated that Etzebeth is a better lock than Bakkies - Mozart only said that Bakkies should play at 4 and Etzebeth at 5, thus side-stepping Saffex's clear statement on the issue.
I took the matter further by adding that both locks are enforcers - but Etzebeth is the better of the two because he is more athletic and speedier than Botha ever was.
The issue here is again about Mozart - whom I wrote clearly have not seen any games Botha and Fourie played in over the past two years - cannot stomach that a younger player is better than his older favourites. He also cannot accept the fact that slower players are less valuable in all round performances than slower ones. I went further and pointed out that none of the foreign club players used by Meyer - bar perhaps the much younger Louw - really lived up to expectation in the tests where they were in the starting line up.
I would rather have a top performer in both line out, ball handling and defensive play like Du Toit in the team than the slow and bumbling Botha and Flippie.
Now here is a re al nice topic for discussion and I hope to get real and objective comments on the issues raised.
