If the Welsh cannot beat this side then I honestly don't know.

    We're ripe for the picking.

Says Cleangene.....Sapps response in the very next post:

"I honestly thought that he might just be having a play around with his selection for the World 15, but to actually weaken the side with the introduction of Steenkamp has really taken the cake."....says the short one.

But Steenkamp destroyed Hair Bear in a display of power scrumming. Is this guy always wrong?

The ONLY chance the Boks have of beatingWales is if that useless Morne Steyn is injured in the opening minutes and replaced by a real rugby player in Goosen.

That would be closely followed by the need to get Coenie on ahead of Jannie, Beast ahead of useless Steenkamp and Lood ahead of geriatrics Bakkies or Matfield......failing which we have no chance in hell.

 Mozaqrt

Our scrum will be OK on Saturday?   How will that be achieved with Jannie, Steenkamp, and the other geriatrics being responsible for scrumming.   The failed last Saturday with Beast being the better scrummer - now the Toulouse failure is starting in Beast place.   and the rest of the comedy gang of showponies  is still around.  Day-dreaming again?  Let me be blunt - it will be a disaster.

And to be outdone by sheer stupidity on the part of Mozart  - if it was not for Le Roux and his brilliance the Springboks would have suffered badly in the first test as well.  The scrum was static - not as bad as they were against the World 15 - but nit really a tower of strength.
And then there was the second test - where the Boks won by a whisker - so what was so wonderfuil about beating the team that was bad in the 6 Nations as well.
Saffex and I saw the weaknesses that could impact on the game and those weaknesses became much more evident in the second test - when Le Roux was less prominent.
In any event - you are too thick to realize any deficiencies in the team and that is the real issue here.

It is sometimes disconcerting to think of how little strike power we have without Willie, but that's what he's there for. To discredit a team performance because they have a match winner and use him is just silly. If it wasn't for Ben Smith, New Zealand would likely have gotten stuck twice against England this year. How much of the weight of those first two tight wins did he carry on the back of his brilliant individual performances?

The problem here is not a easy as it would seem to be at a glance.  The problem is that Meyer select players more on reputation than performance.  We are in fact having teams with players like Gurthro Steenkamp, Bakkies Botha, Victor Matfield, Morne Steyn and Jacque Fouries selected to play in 2014 and then wonder why we struggle in games which we should win easily by some distance.
Mozart always see those players as the be all and end all of SA rugby and when others say there are better players around that for a variety of reasons be selected - he is the one who ignores present performances and sweat that the younger players are rubbish. If he cannot fault their performances 0 he invents incidents in games to denigrate them.
The issue here basicaklly is that he believes that any players who were in the Springbok team in the period 2007 to 2009 should still be in the Springbok team now.    For instance he criticized Etzebeth when he first came to the fore - and then became a supporter.  The moment Bakkies Botha came into contention - Etzebeth was cast aside in his estimation.

Mike, there's nothing wrong with pointing out deficiencies in the side or having an opinion about it. The fact is though, you guys wish ill on the team simply because the coach isn't meeting your demands. It's a case of "I hope the team loses if Meyer doesn't pick the players I like so that he can wake up and pick the players I like", whereas supporting a team is really about "bugger my ego, I hope the Boks prove me wrong and smash them".

I don't know what this feud with Moz is all about. He values experience, you value potential and form in first class competition. That doesn't mean either of you are stupid or wrong, you just look at things from different angles. It should be a simple difference of opinion if everyone wasn't fighting so hard to be proven right, whatever value that has when posting under a screen name .

Meyer won't pick the players you want - he has his own bias just like you. Still, his current 74% win percentage is the best of any coach post-isolation apart from Christie. I think that deserves a little faith and support. He needs to beat the All Blacks this year though. The upcoming RC will put a lot of this speculation to rest either way.

With respect - I do not wish ill to any Springbok side ever.  I always support them and it hurts me badly when they lose or do not play to their full potential because of selection criteria non-related to performance.
Meyer himself said he prefers to select players he is "familiar" with - but are those players still the best around at their advancing ages?
There are some real problems coming up in the RC and present signs indicate serious problems for the Springboks.   The main problems are -
*   That the Aussie sides did particularly well in the Super 15 series and indications are that the Wallabies will have a much stronger team than they had last year   I wrote about their squad in another posting and express reservations about ur chances against a much -improved side this year.
*   We have not been able to beat the All Blacks over the past three years and that remains a worrying and very serious problem for Springbok Rufby.
*   We shout and scream about beating the Welsh - but thn forget that the same Welsh team nearly beat us in the second test.  The Irish beat the Welsh by 26-3 and went on to win the 6-Nations series.   They went off to Argentina and struggled badly against the Pumas - who did not play a lot of players that would be in the RC.  So hw confident can we be to beat them - especially in the away game - where we have struggled against them, in 2012 and 2013?
All-in-all can we afford to play the players that let us down in the 2011 WV and the RC - especialy against the AB's without questioning their abilities against stronger teams?   Surely there must be some improvements made - especially in cases where there are better players coming through.
If we want to make any impression in the RC this year - only the best will have to be selected - some of the players against the Welsh showed weaknesses that needs to my mind be eliminated.   Nobody wants wholesale changes to the team selected by Meyer - but at least five changes seems advisable:-
*   We have serious problems at 13 where Pietersen was tried out with questionable results.  He looked good in the case of a few good ball carries - but his defense is seriously questionable.  He missed way too many tackles to be a confident selection. Jacque Fourie is punted as well - but although his defense in structured play is good - he has a speed deficiency that impacts on both his defense and attack - he cannot attack to save his life.   So we need to find a good enough 13 if we want to get anywhere in the RC.
*   The flyhalf position is also a serious problem.  Morne Steyn is way too predictable and he is at best a poor pivot insofar as the backline is concerned.     His only real asset is his kicking at goal - but is that the only thing to be required from a flyhalf?  I think not - we need a flyhalf that can read the game and show some ball sense.  Time to move on from Morne Steyn - who is not even the first choice flyahlf of his Club.
*    We have to find another flank.   Willem Alberts is the most colourless player around.  He work rate is low - he has deficiencies in ball skills and is useless in ball prtection and recovery - his tackling is at times extremely questionable.  We need a better and more active blindside flank.
*   That brings me to the critical lock situation.   Matfield never was a physical player - he was good in line outs and in gathering kick-ins - but for the rest has a habit to moonlight in the backline.   His ball carries in traffic is pathetic and he is pushed aside by stronger and younger players.   Do we need him in the RC - I doubt it very much - we need a guy  that can play a magor role in scrumming and rolling mauls - and Matfield is not the one.  He will weaken teh Tight 5 considerably.
*   The only other position we have a real problem with is the scrummie.   With du Preez out and  Pienaar showing signs of not veing good enough anymore - it is time to find another scrummie.
As to the bench players Meyer has already got some very good youngsters coming through and they can be used from the bench - but here there is debate bout the props and the locks again.
In the finakl analysis - we need the strongest potential team to play against especially the Aussies and AB's if we want any success against them - and only players who shoeed top class performance this year should be considered.   Player selections based on reputation only - without regard to present performance - should be avoided as far as possible,. One can only hope that Meyer select the best available players and not players he is "familiar" with.

We have problems in many positions. We don't have a world class 13. JJ looked the part for a bit but faded. Pietersen is adequate, but better on the wing. Our only option is to try an inside center like De Allende at 13, or Jean, who has played there. Jaque Fourie shouldn't even be considered anymore. He was a non-entity in the tests last year.

At 12 we may as well play the best tackler and crashballer because Meyer uses his 12 as a crashballer.

Flyhalf, who else is there apart from M Steyn? Is Goosen a test flyhalf? I honestly don't know. Lambie probably won't disappoint, but he won't set the world alight either and with both the latter we lose a kicking edge.

Locks, I'm not up to date with injuries and have watched too little rugby to express an opinion on the up and comers like Lood. The Welsh test was the first time I saw him in action. He looked good coming on fresh against a beaten Welsh side, but that's not enough evidence to form an opinion.

Loosies, Louw and Vermeulen are fine. Alberts has a question mark, but we know how good he can be and his bulk fits with the way Meyer wants to play. No other obvious starter comes to mind apart from Schalk.

Scrumhalf is another big problem. If it's raining or heavy conditions, Pienaar is your man. On a dry pitch his service is too slow. But again, who is the obvious replacement? Hougaardt is a far better wing than scrumhalf. Actually, to my mind he's a crap scrumhalf. We'll have to blood a new guy at some time or another.

Pakie, JJ looked his best in his last test against the AB's and then clueless Meyer rewarded him by dropping him for old man Fourie on the EOYT.

de Allende's credentials look best suited to 13, he is a real handful.

Agreed on Meyer and his 12, poor Serfontein has been turned into a crashballer under Ludeke and Meyer - very sad to see.

Morne Steyn is useless at 10, Goosen, Lambie and Pollard are all better. Bok rugby is never going to progress with a bog ordinary pivot like Morne. Goosen is a talented player who needs long-term investment at 10 for the Boks.

We have more lock depth than ever with Etzebeth, Lood, Steph du Toit and Willemse as the stand-outs.

Louw is average, there are far better options in Brussouw and Coetzee.

Pienaar has been useless at 9 for some time now. Hougaard found his feet nicely at 9 this year and is our best attacking 9 when given the freedom to express himself. We have some quality young 9's in Reinach, v/Zyl, Faf de Klerk and Groom

As with locks, we have props to burn

The biggest issue is our conservative coach who's love affair with all the washed up has been players is crippling and his method of rugby is archaic

Yeah I forgot about Pollard. You're undervaluing Louw somewhat, but that's a matter of opinion. I think he's been consistently outstanding since his recall to the side.

I haven't seen Hougaard play this year so can only go on my last assessment of him. Maybe I'll have a little more faith in him as scrumhalf if, in the meantime, he's learned to pass the ball without crabbing two or three yards across field first.

I remember one test where JJ was outstanding, but I sort of get the idea he's more suited to wing. Again, unfortunately, I watched too little rugby this year to make a call on him.

JJ is perfect at 13 as his pace and feet give him the edge, but Meyer discarding him and playing for the Bulls this year has done him no favours. He has had very few opportunities with ball in hand this year.

Pakie good to have you on board but you need to watch more rugby as you seem somewhat out of touch.

Dave you keep saying incredibly stupid things....and end up denying them. You said this about the first Welsh test:

"The ONLY chance the Boks have of beatingWales is if that useless Morne Steyn is injured in the opening minutes and replaced by a real rugby player in Goosen"

That is a contingent prediction. If something doesn't occur, then another event will occur. In this case, if Morne isn't injured, the Boks will lose.

This is so lousy, it's hard to imagine a rugby guy thinking this way. But you said it....obviously your condition wasn't met, so your prediction is in force. So stop lying.....you said you wanted the Boks to lose and you predicted the Boks would lose.

Pakie quite right about Louw. You are talking to snapster who wants Kolisi playing for the Boks at 7. I kid you not!!JJ and Coenie - please snapster let it go. Those tw o players must first prove themselves at Super 15 level. Try JJ at wing. Coenie to debulk and try hooker.Spies debulk and play wing - if too slow retire. Lets have some common sense here!

Moz don't speak shit.....I liked the majority of the 2007 WC side, had no time for the coach and therefore was passionately behind our boys.

I cant say the same for the insult of a side Meyer has come up with - it is not a true Bok side and the only way things will change is if they get thumped week after week, which I predict will happen.

As for Hendricks, he is a very ordinary player - there are better players about

I get that you don't like the players Meyer is selecting, but at the end of the day if you're a true fan you would be able to put that behind you and support the Boks. Wishing misfortune on the team you pretend to be a fan of is not being a supporter. But unfortunately that seems to be how you deal with things that you don't agree with.

"My issue is with those young players decisions to go, they disappoint me and for that reason I wish them the worst on the rugby field. May their rugby careers fall flat. I would actually say, oimatey, that someone making criticisms of rafts and rafts of journeymen players jumping ship simply to take coin from teams in another Country rather than stick around and play for the country of their birth actually shows that person to be the opposite of what you are painting them to be, doesn't it ?
So I think you are making a slightly stupid statement there.

I will clarify my own position on this by stating that, the calls for Steffon Armitage to be included in the England Squad when he jumped ship to take vast amounts of French cash instead of staying here and being paid a handsome wage, knowing full well the rules to which the England team abide, are a nonsense. He made his choice. He can't have it all ways. Choosing more money over International Honours sums people up perfectly for me.

And I get sick of the "oh you are not a true fan " brigade.
I think I made my feelings clear on that particular little brand of pseudo psychologists a few weeks ago. Then again, 1984 has come to pass in many ways.

Definitely deep down inside, he is a Bok man. But his support for the team is always conditional upon whether he agrees with the selections. I remember when the Boks played in Twickenham at the end of 2012 he said he had a ticket but wouldn't go to the game because he didn't like the squad that was named and didn't care to waste his day.
So no consideration of wanting to go support and cheer on his team at an absolutely epic venue against a great rival. Only consideration was that he disagreed with the coaches selections and that was the end of that. Who wants a fair weather friend?
At the end of the day this is just sport, its not political, get over yourself and your opinion and go support your team.
