Love the bit about New Zealand at the end of the article

I actually hate scrums, and even though this article is tongue in cheek, it still touches a nerve. How boring is it when they have re-set after re-set in a game, and then for reasons only known to the ref, a penalty or free kick is awarded. I think it is a part of the game that should be totally reviewed, because it is actually very nearly impossible to referee fairly. I understand that forwards will argue it is a platform to dominate the opposition, but it really slows things down and saps the excitement out of a game. It is the one aspect of the game that I really can't stand. Now everyone knows I played in the backilne. LOL
Love the scrums but these arbitrary penalties which could go anyway are annoying. This business about binding when your opponent has a tight slippery sleeve is also incredible.
Long live the scrum!
We should go back to old style scrumming, where the shove came after the ball was fed. Go back and look at any 70s video to see how well this phase functioned.
We should also enforce straight feeding and make it a hooking contest again.....a part of rugby that has been totally lost, for no good reason.
MOz tha tdoes raise an interesting idea. A reviw of the rules should be done. Establish what worked well in the past and has been replaced by rules that dont work as well.
The old rule I liked was that advantage was given in rucks to the side going forward. Tended to get the loosies out of the backline to some degree. It would make a big difference if reintroduced.
It amazes me how skew the ball can be thrown in without any reaction from the ref.
Interesting discussion between Naas Botha and Andy Turner, about the scrums and the refs.
