Jake White was rather diplomatic in his press interview after the Rebels game - but came up with "Our attack struggled a little ... "
He obviously tried to minimize a seriously defective situation. The attack did not struggle a bit - it was near to non-existent. The only try scored by the Sharks came from a knock on of the Rebels and quick thinking by Daniel - the rest was easy - there were no defenders that could defend - but the speed was so slow - the defenders caught up and nearly stopped the try.
The problem remains - the backline being disrupted. Steyn is no flyhalf - and a very poor center. The problem is partly physical and partly mental. Physically he has serious lack of speed and mentally - much worse of course - he cannot read games and as a result does not know when to pass balls and when to kick balls. He is consequently one-dimensional and predictable.
Steyn's kicking game basically is never strategic and serves mostly as a means of ball possession handover to the opposition. His passing game is indifferent and often enough inaccurate.
With a flyhalf like Steyn the backline cannot play attacking rugby - end of story.
