Victor Matfield had his critics- but can any sane person argue that he was not the best lineout forward in the world. Combined with Juan Smith at 7, even Spoes at 8, along with Bakkies and an inform Andries Bekker the boks had the best lineout in the world. Matfield and co poached many opposition ball for turnovers, slowed down opposition ball etc. Our own ball was very often clean takes that were planned to perfection to get the rolling mauls going.

The kicking and territiry game was more effective because we won more lineouts that we lost. Most of the driving mauls and backline tries were scored of lineouts, even first phase tries.

With our lineouts somewhat of a Shambles, we have lost our best platform for attack.

Not sure about the Lineout throwing of Straus. Perhaps Liebenberg playing in his place is a blessing in disguise, as the Stormers have a good lineouts, especially when Vermuelen is at the back.

The Back of the lineout has been terribale, and Meyer has stated this is why Daniels was dropped for a specialist. Although still not sure why Donkey Potgieter was not dropped instead.

This could mean that Alberts starts to give more lineout options-

guess trhat makes me insane, cos IMO victor matfield was one of the best lineout jumpers in the world, despite his hieght of 6ft6 which while its not short, is average at best with some of the tall timber roaming the rugby lands. what victor matfield had was unrivaled lineout rugby nous and this always saw him get the better of many quality opponents.

during the All Black/Bok test matches, i always remember that uneasy feeling come lineout times and when matfield was playing, i would have that dreaded feeling even during our throw ins.

i dont agree that the Boks lineout is defunk, it is the one area where i think the Boks are stronger then anyone else in the IRC.
even in the spXV nearly every saffa club had good lineout ethics and i have seen this transferred at Bok level.

How can you be insane if you agree with the statement- that Victor Matfield was the best lineout jumper in world rugby? Or are you insane because you believe he was only one of the best?  It is also a rhetorical statement rather than being a true evaluation. he he.
