I was very impressed with the bok scrum against Argentina whom are traditionally one of the best scrummagers. We pushed the scrum back, got tight heads and wheeled the scrum to put the argies underpressure on their ball, and create space on our own ball.
It was true scrummaging again.
The Beast, Strauss and Jannie got the upperhand in most scrums.
Then when the whole front row was substituted fattie, Bismaark and Coenie got the upperhand.
Initially the all new front row did struggle in the scrums and gave away a penalty and got pushed back, but after a few scrums became as dominant as the first bok front row.
The boks from what I understand long ago were one of the best scrummagers in the world, maybe the best. The olden days of the 60's etc.
It has allways surprised me that the boks scrum has been average for many years.
Given that our rolling maul is so strong this does not make sense.
Although looking at today the new scrum rules seem to favour the boks as a strong heavy pack.
Early days and we shall see against the Allblacks and Wallabies, but this could be the reinassance of the bok scrum dominance
