Although a freely admit I was wrong about the result - the vctpry was won by individual briliance of a few players - there are still serious deficiencies in the team.

*   The scrumming was at best average and in a few cases poor.

*   Handling error happened too often in the first 70 minutes of the game.

In the first 70 minutes it looked like the game can go either way and at times the Sp[ringboks were under serious pressure.

Looking at the indiidual players the following is clear:-

*   Willie le Roux must calm down - he is trying to do too much on his own.    In the first half he tried to take on the Aussie team on his own - which was non-productive.  In the latter stages of the game he joined the backline and did much better.

*   Serfontein was bog orinary in the first 70 minutes of the game - but then made a line break that led to the try of De Villiers.

*    De Villiers finished off well in scoring two tries - but in the forst 70 minutes he was iffy and lost ball possession five times.   Too many balls went missing when he was involved.   The two tries showed some spark late in the match - but followed on him finishing off - without really playing an earlier role.

*   Pollard shows all the right signs - but he is immature as shown by the times he missed t he line when takin g pnalty kicks - as well as the charge down kicks.    On the positive side - I think part of his problem was th service he got from Hougaard.

*   Hougaard kicked less than he did before - but this passing game was not really up to standard.  Slow and a few times inaccurate as well.  The few kicks he made was not up to standard and could be assessed as aimless.

*   Mohoje was not really in the game.  He made a reasonnable number of tackles - but was largely not noticeable.   The other two loosies had outstanding games.

*   I would still like to see a proper lock playing for the Springboks - rather than Matfield.

*    Jannie is a problem - he was adequste at prop - but he is just not up to sandard anymore.

The bench did make a huge difference to the t eam.   Lambie was top class and Reinach showed his brilliamnce in the game.  I think he should replace Hougaard at scrummie.   Bakkies did nothing when on the field of play.   Burger was a huge improvement                -

Pollard made a number of  breaks and tackled hard. Huge prospect this.
Drop Jannie to bench, matfiled from squad, drop ou pa to bench . In come Van der Merwe. Lood/ Bakkies and Schalk.  Give Reinach say 20 minutes next time.Sorry that Allende is not getting game time.Habana is not looking too good.

Pollard was okay, defensively hes a liability, missed tackle on Kudrini that led to Ashley cooper try. Yes Kudrini is big but still, well see.

Pollard and Habana bumped each other off more so than Kuridrani bumped them off. Pollard missed a few tackles but he also made plenty where his channel was directly challenged. He is definitely not a defensive liability in the way Morne was.

Mike, " I would still like to see a proper lock playing for Mattfield". Is that a veiled compliment?
