I came across this story, which I vaguely recall, but discovered again recently. I thought those with an interest in the sea might find this a curious read. The Waratah sank in heavy seas off the east coast. Having experienced a massive storm in the SAS Good Hope off East London, these events are entirely plausible.

Spooony believe me the SAS Good Hope was no modern ship. A WW2 frigate, we still used hammocks. I sailed on her last voyage, a cruise up to the Kunene river looking for gun running Russian trawlers. Quite a scene. We limped back to Simonstown billowing huge clouds of smoke. They deemed her beyond reasonable repair.

You are right about the Titanic....a sad example of what a class structure can do to a society. Jewel bedecked 65 year olds were hopping into boats, while children were drowning below decks.
