It appears that our beloved unions have resorted to threatening SANZAR with withdrawal from Super rugby. How this situation was ever allowed to escalate is truly mind boggling. That this is the measure our unions will resort to to ensure their survival is a disgrace.
With contract obligations etc money owed to creditors etc this could be a bloodbath. See keo article above. Will SARFU get sued by whoever loses out?
The five existing unions should have made their stance clearer long time ago -ie that they would not accept demotion. What makes them think SANZAR will bow to our wishes beats me.
With their huge debt and worse Super 15 record (CF the Cheetahs) will the Lions be the losers. Imagine the largst city in SA without a Super 15 side!

To be fair, none of the Unions were ever approached with any real plans. They've all been very strongly opposed to the Kings being lumped into the competition. There wasn't even mention of a relegation game with the Kings. SARU simply promised them entry and that was the end of it. Completely backward and arrogant as they simply expected the Unions to fold like a deck of cards and take it like a wench. This has to be one of the biggest gaffs they have ever made. Now Aus and NZ are being dragged into things. Where SARU really so stupid as to be unaware of contractual obligations of the competition until 2015? How can they even begin to make promises and plans without even considering those rather important details? How stupid are these clowns?
