The temps plunge below zero F

We woke this morning to temps below zero F...or about 18 degrees below C. A tad nippy. But the sky is so clear you can see the icicles sparkling on trees  300 metres away. Quite beautiful as the Arctic has spilled over into the northern plains. Lake Michigan is festooned with ice flows and cold steam rises from the surface. Global warming is nowhere in sight. 

It's a traditional winter and it's going to be a white Christmas with strong snow showers predicted for Christmas eve. All the very best to you and yours.

I am in the exact opposite weather wise.  Hot with very high humidity and cloudy - with every chance to rain today and tomorrow.   The high humidity level is the real problem - one has difficulty to sleep at night.  

Despite all our debating and differences of opinion I have a high regard for you and hope you and yours have a wonderful day tomorrow and only what is good in 2014.  We certainly will disagree on many issues - but that is the fun of being a member of this site.

Yep you can get some strange effects when it's very cold....like the trousers clamping the legs. My son in law recently had a car window explode, something I experienced in a Lancia in the 70s. All interesting in retrospect.

Maybe I had enough sun surfing the Cape, but I find the winter increasingly beautiful....particularly at sunrise. It's the English disease, an infatuation with mother nature.

We went to the Klee exhibit at the Tate Modern a few weeks ago....an interesting oeuvre.  And among his works there were several that explored the micro world of winter. I remember a bit of prose by John Ga lsworthy, I read at school, called Spindleberries. It's the same viewpoint. It's an evocative piece....here's a link if you are so inclined.

Grew up in Durbs and now reside just outside Vancouver, Canada. 

I must admit it is great to have the changing seasons with a sprinkle of snow around Christmas, sure beats the muggy Durban Christmas.

But you guys know what, the JW still goes down and is enjoyed no matter where we are for Christmas.

New Year will be in Mexico with plently of Corona and sun.
