Quite a lot of noise made over this decision.

Now from another perspective, it appears as a lot of noise made to cover up.

Any referee can only allow waste of time until the final whistle.

This time wasting act happened close to the final whistle, remaining time was what, 50 seconds or something.

Given this, any ref could only allow time wasting over 50 seconds or so. He could not have allowed one minute or more. Time would be up already.

All this to point at the obvious, the AU player was allowed to waste a considerable chunk of what a ref could allow.

Something like 40 seconds. Out of the 50 seconds.

The outrage should be that the ref left waste so much time from time left, not that he whistled.

Ref took too long before whistling at a critical moment in the game.
