We have been entertained for moths now saying the Southern Hemisphere Rugby has deteriorated badly and that Rugby strength in its entirety is now in the NH.

We were also entertained about how the Springboks have gone backwards and how the team is now a shadow of the glorious team coached by Meyer and that the Springboks play a clueless game with no attaching ability, an inability to properly use the backline and is poor in defense.

The days of the flat backline attacks under Meyer is gone and the present backline is totally inept.

So who would I like to go through top the semi's: -

England vs Australia   -   Obviously Australia

All Blacks vs Ireland   -   Obviously the All Blacks

Wales vs France         -   Depend on which French team turns up - hopefully France

Japan vs South Africa -   South Africa

That would mean 3 SH sides in the semi's as against 1  NH side and makes the worms squirm on site,

Do you follow the world rankings? Both Australia and South Africa have spent most of the recent years outside of the top 5, with only the All Blacks flying the Southern Hemisphere flag...

Ireland peaked 2 years before the world cup, with the likes of Sexton and Oconner past it. They would have been contenders, but do not have the depth to replenish their personnel.

England has been the second-best team in the world for the last 4 years. They are certainly the favourites to beat Australia, and are probably the most likely team that could beat the All Blacks.

Wales are good, but probably not good enough to win a few back to back games.

The Springboks under Alister Coetzee were useless. However, following the appointment of Rassie, and bringing back overseas players- are now back in the top 3 teams in the world even if the world rankings do not yet show this.

Australia is the worst team they have had this century. A far cry from Gregans outfit in the early 2000's.

France are useless, and Scotland have the best team they have ever assembled but was not really a factor in the warmer weather.

" That would mean 3 SH sides in the semi's as against 1  NH side and makes the worms squirm on site,"

The exact opposite is going to happen Mike.

SA will be the only semi-finalist team.

...unfortunately.

SB

Sure the deterioration started under Meyer in 2014 already,   The 2015 WC squad was a shambles and could not even beat Japan.  Meyer went into  a panic and started  using younger players and over-played them - in the WC that type of thing does not help.

NH club rugby is a shambles without importing more and more players from the SH.  That strengthen their club sides and weaken their national sides.

The Clubs can afford getting better coaches than the nightmare we have had for years now in the franchise and provincial coaches.  The Springboks can be thankful - a lot of their players are doing 10 tim es better coached by northern  Club coaches than they were when they played in SA.

Ou Maaik, your heading says "Which teams I would like to see winning and why"
You've indicated which teams you'd like to see winning but the "why" is a bit flimsy.
You say:

England vs Australia   -   Obviously Australia

All Blacks vs Ireland   -   Obviously the All Blacks

Wales vs France         -   Depend on which French team turns up - hopefully France

Japan vs South Africa -   South Africa

That doesn't provide a single indication as to why you'd want any of those teams to win. I can accept no comment on the Springboks game as I think all of us South Africans want the Springboks to win but the word "obviously" doesn't state why you want Australia and the All Blacks to win while "hopefully France" also doesn't say why you'd rather France than Wales.
My own choices are largely dictated by who I'd prefer the Springboks to meet so from that point of view I'd like to see Ireland, Australia and France win because then we'd have an easier semi and final but if the Springboks had been eliminated at this point then I'd choose as follows:
England vs Australia: England. I'll always support England over Australia in any sport because my ancestry is half English and I'm still struggling to forgive the Aussies for putting us out of two world cups in 1999.
All Blacks vs Ireland: New Zealand. No question. I've always admired the All Blacks and Ireland are my least favourite of the British sides.
Wales vs France: Wales definitely. My ancestry is half Welsh and even though I've always had a soft spot for the French (in both rugby and football), Wales will always be my #2 team.
Okay, so I've explained why I'm supporting who. Can you do the same? You say things like "obviously Australia" and "obviously the All Blacks" but it's not very obvious to me why you would prefer those two teams to win.

"That would mean 3 SH sides in the semi's as against 1  NH side and makes the worms squirm on site, "

But Maaik, you did not communicate clearly at all.

And I prefer Rooinek's logic for the results to yours...that way, we would avoid both NZ and England...I think that is probably what most SA supporters are hoping for....and Ausie beating Ireland in the semifinal to play us in the final?

Highly unlikely, but such was Japan topping their pool. Having said that, if we make the final it will be against: in order of probability:

  1. NZ
  2. Poms
  3. Ireland
  4. Aus
And that's what the bookies are saying too. ..we have 3 matches to win....GO BOKKE!

The real final will be NZ vs Poms in the semi. If the ABs win the trophy i think ot will be the best win NZ has pulled off of the last 3. The gap has closed since 2015 but the ABs are still the best team around.

All the statements on here stink of wishful thinking more than based on facts.

Is there any of you you that can claim the Boks are better than than us or the Poms?

I agree that you have the easier road to the finals but that does not guarantee  you will win. All you can hope for is the semi takes it out of of your opponents.

Having said that if its not us i do hope you take the title over any NH side (  apart from having to listen to beenshits vile BS that comes with that)

Facts you say? Who beat you in NZ last year? You walkked all over us since?

We ran England very close on Twickers last year and normally demolish them in SA...neutral ground might equal things a bit, but it's arrogant to the extreme to make the statement you just did....you are doing what you are accusing Beenz of....hypocrisy much?

And you still need to get by the other green team....more than a couple of banana skins on your route to glory...and you have 2 in a row already...3 in a row will not be good for World Rugby...don't expect any favors, rather expect the opposite.

Good luck anyway, you're not a bad bloke.

Sharky boy, you a funny guy. There is no way Bokkies are the third best team in the world. I think maybe in four years time you have a real contender. I wonder which guy will coach next?? Is it gonna be a non-white?

A reasonable world ranking is:
1. All Blacks2. England3. South Africa - improved after 2 years of Alister Coetzee who is not international standard.4. Wales5. Ireland6. Australia
This considers the results over the last 4 years.

@ComeatInit,
The Boks are the only team that have beaten the All Blacks in New Zealand, backed up by a draw this year in New Zealand.  The Boks are also the defending 4 Nations champions, which is an informal world champ contest.

I dont think they improved that much. Just stopped playing stupid all out attack which south africa has never done well. Overrated defence and cannot kick to save their lives. I will never get why your coach doesnt play to your pretty obvious strengths which is speed on the flanks. It just doesnt make sense to me. So since last year you guys were beat twice by us and havent beaten Wales or Ireland and have been okay against rugby champ sides in altitude. Whats your record away from home? Got lucky against france. Wales and Ireland are lightyears better and on form so are Japan too. There is way too much chest beating from practically nothing.

The Boks beat them away but what happened at home?? Totally fell apart... again. Since then you guys have looked totally incapable of playing any kind of attacking rugby. A big blunt herd of buffalo. Typical old Bokkies rugby. Kicking is realy bad, embarassing at times. The rugby champ. is what without the new zealanders? You guys and australia and argentina cant win away against the six nations unions so no, it's not a world champ contest. anyway you only played half a rugby champ. this year so it hardly counts. Its half a rugby championship title in my eyes.

2 NH teams lost to Japan in this RWC...and badly too...Wales barely beat Aus...the 3rd best SH team....you lot aren't too bad, but you ain't that good either. Let's see what you can do...good luck with your next 2 games...you'll need it.

Well i am certain i am not wrong but you never know.

I have spent alot of time listening to both side and i must say the religious side just make no sense to me.

How anyone can think any religion is the right path just astounds me, none of it makes any sense in any way.  So many contradictions and just what as i see complete nonsense. All facts point to the complete opposite. How anyone can look at the teaching of the bible as fact is beyond understanding, the bible teaches hate, murder and and what i can only call a callious and hate full being. Nothing like what christian say he is

Why does this god hide, why does he not show himself to everyone. Why i am denied any proof that such a being exists, why if you believers are right will he not show me the way and condemn me to eternal hell hell because he refuses to prove he exists?

If i was  believe your teachings why i am not provided 1 single thing that even gives me a chance to think that this being exists?

It seems bizarre that you loving god would condemn me to an eternity of hell simple because he refuses to show me the way. If i have to spend my life in hell then i will do so as a much better person than your god will ever be
