Our problem is usually who to leave out....now we are scraping to find 3 test calibre loosies.
We start with a choice between Spies and Daniels at 8th man. Spies a player who goes anonymously through whole seasons these days.....and Daniels a fighter, who may not be quite physical enough in static close tests. I'd still take the guy who tries, Keegan Daniels. Hell I might even try Ashley Johnson again....as he showed in his long range try a few weeks back, he still has the pace and is a strong chappie, with a combatative streak. What a pity Alberts has declined so dramatically.
At open side we have Brussouw and nobody else. But it was discouraging to see Pocock tackle Heindrich and easily strip him a few weeks back. One can't help but feel when these two meet again, unless the Bok tight forwards totally dominate, Pocock will have his number, just as in the RWCQF.
Openside, which seemed a treasure trove of riches when the season started.....now comes down to Marcel Coetzee and the hirsute Josh Strauss. Neither is ideal. Strauss is a plodding runner who loses the ball far too often....and his defence is porous. Marcel is a very smart young player, but needs more exposure. At a pinch I would go for the talent. Stander may be another option, who looks more physically mature at this stage, but I havent seen enough of his play. Elstadt I fear will be exposed as just too ponderous in tests.....but maybe not by the Poms. So that could be a safe choice
With all that, the loosie area, as Rugby 365 opines, could be our weak link against England. Who would have thunk it!
