These are players I'll remember
All my life though some have flamed

Some retired last September (Matfield)
They have gone but some remain(Fourie)

All these players had their moments
With trophies and fame I still can recall
Some are coaches the rest are living..

...the kind of life envied by all

And despite being a famous player
There are scrummies that compare with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When the nation wants something new

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For the times you helped to build the score
I just think that if you leave now
The Fans will eventually love you more.

Mozart outstanding.   The thing that often happen to players is that they think that the "good olde times" remains indefinitely and that they can continue to play and perform.   What often happen is that the player stays in the game until he finally disgraces himself - and what the public remember is not the good performances of the past - but the inevitable final disgrace.    Du Preez had his moments of glory - but I also remember how he buggered up at Twickenham - but most would remmber his good days only

His disgrace would be the final remianing memory and he would be wise to realise that and stay away from it.    He cannot be a success as Springbok scrummie - even if Hougaard's game against the Chiefs was poor and we may be looking for a scrummie.

How will we remember thee

as a footprint in the sands of time

or perhaps more like the icon

that was Fourie Du Preez

Thanks for the visit

the glory and the pain

without you it would

never have been the same

I can’t think of a nicer

thing to say, other than

let us lock your memory

into the pages of history

So ignore the call

for to re-write another visit

would never be the same

as there can only be

one memory of FDP

Well in fairness I had some help from those great rugga fans Paul and John. Although their lyrics were more in line with Heyneke's philosophy....."none for better".
