surprises seeing the style of rugby the Cheetahs are playing as it's been work in progress for a number of years now. I've commented on the subject a number of times on a different board as well as on this board The first thing to notice is that every player whether it be forward or back has a clear understanding that it's a team effort or dynamic. The loss of their better players has not detracted from the team dynamic for the team dynamic does not depend on a single player. Whoever is responsible for the Cheetah culture is a genius as the team has been moulded into an example of a style Bok rugby should adopt. Behind the backdop of this wonderful style of rugby we tend to forget that the Cheetahs are a no brand name. Iv'e said this time and again, it's not a single player that's going to ignite the Bok backline as proven in the case of the Cheetahs, it's a collective culture and mindset amongst all of the team that will ignite the performance of the Boks.
There should be no
Yes and it s not necessarily about how long they have been together although that as a factor would help. Its a lot about the creativity and desrie to play this sort of rugby.
Its is a brilliant style. I just wonder how good we could be if the best players in the country adopted it and were coached to do it. Its a pity a top SA Super 15 side has not given this style a full go.
Well I believe they'll only get better the longer they play together, in time confidence and self belief will cement itself and there's only one way then for them to go. Mind you, I see the same thing happening at the Brumbies where Jake has done a wonderful job with a bunch of no hopers.
I don't want to be seen as taking the glory away from Naka, but is there anyone who knows who the Cheetah backline coach is? I know the forwards coach is Os.
I was suprised at how the brumbies pack got the better of the sharks from what I could see. But as to the style you have to believe you want to play this way and believe you can be successful at it.
Some critics would say its because of the style they play that the Lions and Cheetahs end up the bottom SA sides. I think it has a lot to do with depth and talent. That is why it would have been very interesting to see what would happen if if a top SA side tried it.
Lack of depth for sure, not talent, the talent is growing alonside of their style.
The Cheetah's backline coach is Hawies Fourie. Doing very good work, and thankfully we have Sias ebersohn on hand as well! Two of the three best 10s in SA is pretty handy. With regards to our backline play. It's not perfect, but it's very effective. Unlike the other SA sides our players know how to identify and break down defences. The support play at times is sensational. This doesn't come from a mindset or willingness to play ball-in-hand; instead from a lot of technical and skills work off the field. I heard ricardo Loubscher might be Bok backline coach. A bit of a dark horse but he has been doing good work at the Bulls.
This is my first super rugby season I've ever watched. I Absolutely love the way the Cheetahs play. As I watched the Currie cup I took to the Stormers very quickly. But the Cheetahs are definately a very fun team to watch. You can see it in their play that they believe in eachother, and will go through brick walls for eachother. Every time they succeed, or score a try, I have a big smile on my face. :)
Watching the Cheetahs play as a team reminds me why I love to play the game of rugby.
Can. no matter what team you support in the S15, weither you are from NZ, Aus or SA. The cheetahs have a soft spot in everyone's heart. They are probably the best supported "Second" team in the world :)
