After the June tests and the RC series there were two players dropped from the EOYT squad announced by Coetzee, namely -
*   Jan Serfontein at center; and
*   Francois Hougaard at scrum half.
Granted they deserve to be dropped - they were absolutely useless - but so were a string of other players who remain in the squad:   Those include -
*   the non-existent defense liability Raymond Rhule;*   the Bulls bench scrummie Rudy Paige;*   the absolute dud with no ball skills and low work rate Francois Louw;*   the similar to Louw deficient abilities Nazeem Cassiem;*   the poor scrummaging expert Ruan Dreyer;*   the third level Sharks hooker Chilliboi Rallepele:*   the poor scrummaging expert Hyakane.
Many of the other plyers in the squad are not the best in heir positions and some excellent players on merit was just ignored.
What upsets me most is that performance is not the basis for selection - racial quotas has taken over as the norm.    Of the above 7 useless players - 5 are quota players and two are Whites.     On that basis the 5 remained in the squad so as to meet quota requirements.   Why Louw and Dreyer are retained only Coetzee would know.

Louw at 32 is not the player he used to be 3 years ago and his ball handling in the AB game in CT was very poor.   He was involved in giving away a penalty that was converted by Barrett when he knocked on a kick-in ball placing Etzebeth off-side.
Louw himself knocked on two other balls passed to him - perfectly good passes, causing possession turnovers and AB counter-attacks.
Louw missed 25% of attempted tackles  an extremely poor statistic.
H e was no better in the other RC tests and that makes him the second worse player to Dreyer in donating a win to the AB's.

but, but, but Mike ... didn't you say that you were in favour of the quotas? Didn't you say you had no problems with them?

What' s the issue now?

I have no problem wit quotas - butt you missed the proviso I attached to that's statement.    I clearly said election of quota players should be based on proven performance and not purely on the colour of their skins.
What have we now in the squad?   You have Leyds where Mapimpi would be a much better selection - you have Rallepele where you could have Marutlele - You have Paige where you can have Pampier you have Skosan - with Nkosi a better selection..
You have a number of other players who is substantially weaker than their White counterparts and that weakens the team already.    To select poorer players of colour aheasdof better ones is a further disaster in the making.
Coetzee would never change  -  his team selection at the Stormers were BS - his p resent selections are even worse.

Well ... if a player of colour is selected on merit then he wouldn't be a quota would he? He would be there because he deserves to be. His skin colour would be irrelevant. Like a Bryan Habana. The best possible pick.

How many players of colour deserve to be in the Bok team right now?

How many players of colour in our current squad do not have a better white option?

Do you know of any?

I have an issue with quotas. I do not have an issue with players of colour.

There is a difference.

@DirtyMuttThe way you see things is that if a black player and a white player are of equal ability- the white player must be much better. You don't realise this, it is just part of your ideology. Skosan is better on current form, as is Kolisi.
The coaching is probably a bigger problem than just team selection. We all know this is not the strongest team due to quotas and crap selections- but to falsely label a good player of colour as a quota is just stupid.
We have players like Jessica Kriel playing out of position, keeping a specialist like Mapoe out of the team.

SharkSh!t ... I commend your bravery to stand up for the black man but sadly it's based in ignorance.

Let me explain ... the reason why I regard Kolisi as a quota is simply because we have guys like Jaco Kriel out there who as you know has taken the players player of the year award two or so seasons back.

He is a much better rugby player across the board than Kolis and should be wearing the Bok 6 jersey. The only reason he isn't is because skin colour dictates in this day and age.

We also have another much better openside flank in Cloete. He was born to play at 6. It comes naturally to him ... and he too is a vastly superior and a better option on the openside flank than Kolisi.

Therefore ... that qualifies Kolisi as a quota. No more ... no less. In other words ... he was selected because of his skin colour.

Yes ... I do agree ... if I were forced to pick between Mapoe and Jessica then Mapoe would be my man ... BUT ... Mapoe isn't a test match centre. He made such a hash of things in the last match he played for the Lions. We have guys like Swanepoel, Odendaal, Vorster, Janse van Rensburg and even Venter as much better options than Mapoe.

That qualifies Mapoe as a quota ... no more ... no less. Once again ... skin colour played a role in his selection.

Skosan is an interesting example. He has pace to burn as we all saw and yet we have better options on the left wing than him. Perhaps not white options ... but a guy like Nkosi is in my opinion the better option of the two and would be sel ected on merit and therefore would not be classified as a quota.

May I apologize - I am with you 100% and should have put the issue clearer than I did.
