"Former Springbok hooker Naka Drotské has lost "almost a third of his blood" after being shot and injured during a robbery, according to information obtained by News24.

He was allegedly visiting family on a smallholding outside Pretoria on Thursday night when four armed men attacked them.

Netcare Montana Hospital confirmed that Drotské has been admitted there. He is being treated in the intensive care unit.

Captain Kay Makhubele said a family had been sitting in their house around 22:00 on Thursday when they were attacked by three unknown men who pointed firearms at them.

"There was a struggle whereby one of the men was shot at," he said.

Drotske and his business partner Os du Randt had been having a braai at his brother's smallholding in Kameeldrift when armed men stormed in, said the friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Shots were apparently also fired at Du Randt but he is believed to have escaped injury.

The friend said he had heard that in the rush to get to hospital, the men were apparently also involved in an accident.

According to News24's information Drotské was shot three times attempting to protect his family from the attackers. His wife is by his side at the hospital.

He has already been operated on but needs to be stabilised before another operation on an injured arm can be performed.

Drotské played 26 tests for the Springboks and was a member of the Rugby World Cup winning team in 1995.

Makhubele said they were investigating cases of attempted murder and attempted robbery.

No arrests had yet been made.

He said anyone with information should contact the police.'

Lets hope and pray Drotske survives the attack.   One cannot have a braai on a farm without being attacked and fired on by robbers .  

I will refrain from commenting on SA itself, as it would be severe. I hope Naka makes a full recovery. Of course, the psychological scars of such an experience are harder to move on from. I have an uncle who had a gun put to his head, fortunately it jammed. Unfortunately for my grandmother's best friend, the gun that killed her didn't. An old woman, beaten and gunned down, for what? Some jewellery?

Instead of leaders promoting black social and economic improvement independently from any other race, they always lean on the victim crutch.

It's never a case of "let's focus on ourselves" but rather ALWAYS a case of what can we blame for our failures.

( Edit: having said that. I don't think that blacks in the US have gotten a fair shake from the justice system over the years.

It's a rabbit hole of a legal debate because on the one hand the law should be applied equally and fairly but on the other hand one also has to punish offending communities more harshly so that you remove negative elements from those communites.

In SA whites don't enjoy the legal standing as black citizens and we accept it...despite all our gripes.)

One has to ask yourself why they favour the "victims crutch" over independent development?

Something silly that I noticed awhile back ... a black woman scanning groceries ended up having to punch in a code on one of the items that wouldn't scan. She used her middle finger to do this. It looked totally natural for her to have selected that particular finger. The white man on the other hand would have used his pointer finger.

They were found sleeping on grass mats under cow hides when we arrived and that's a mere 5 hundred years ago.

I ask again ... why do they favour the crutch so ... even to this day ... they would prefer to receive a handout over actually working for something themselves ... and what I find really interesting is that this covers all the black folk across the continent. They are all like minded.

I was listening to what Rupert said last night and the real problems in SA.    He actually ended up being called a racist - because he was talking bluntly about the problems in SA at present.

The result was an all-out attack on Rupert by the normal crooks and on Whites in general by Malema and co.    I get disheartened when a  family - who made huge money overseas and never got a cent from Government and has no Government contracts - is called racist.

What you find is that survival in the harsher of the two climates requires that same skill set that is necessary to build a functioning first world country.

He's saying that whites are catching up. 

It just one example from one country though. 

In Scandenavia the social systems are so good, that many woman choose to have kids out of wedlock. Not to sponge off the state but just because from pre-school to university the child is taken care of. 

The mom can have a career and the need for a nuclear family is diminished.

So they have a higher than normal rate of single parent households, but the dad's haven't necessarily vanished and the kids don't become drug lords.

It's how a society deals with a problem or a need that determines what effect it will have on them.

So we get back to...planning and problem solving.
