After viewing Malherbe in the Welsh test, one has to conclude he would be a liability.

The only liability re Malherbe is that he has been out for so long. Ditto Etzebeth and Lambie. One thing for sure, the rubber will hit the road in the RC. No place to hide for sub standard players. I am hoping against hope the matfiled disaster is behind us.

Is Goosen really ready. Could need another year to be physically ready. Pollard looks ready although younger.Thomas Du Toit could be a bolter if he stands up well against the crusties. Remarkable find at 19 years old.
Pity about quota requirements. Deysel has probaly earned a spot. Alberts I agree doesnt work hard enough at 7. Pity labuschagne was injured.Flip probably before young Willemse - need one expereinced lock and Flip has captained the bulle.
Well over to Meyer he has plenty to ponder.

Popped up, on his knees, penalized and frankly the reason Coenie was yellow carded. A woeful performance against Wales. Please base your comments on actual field performance...not favoritism.

Fakse story again - are you not ashamed of yourself? Jenkins was penalizzed twice and then Malherbe once. Afterwards a warning was given to both props and both were warned that the next collapse was going to lead to a yellow card. Malherbe was afterwards subbed and Coenie ended up with a yellow card.
Was Jenkins the reason for the all three collapses? Probably - but the ref at one stage said he penalized Jenkins twice and is going to penalize Malherbe in turn.
When are you ever going to talk the truth of rugby performances - or are you dead set to constantly lie about players you do not like?

Actually the ref got one of the Jenkins penalties dead wrong....the commentators mentioned it....Malherbe was on his knees. . The ref just missed it. So he was warned, popped, dropped, penalized all in a few scrums....and since then he has pretty much been injured. How anybody in his right mind could suggest this guy with no game time for RC boggles the mind.

So the ref got one penalty dead wrong - based on the commentators? Ouch Look once you start without bias to assess players one can start taking note of your stories - but since they mostly are slanted - and so far away from the truth - nobody should ever take note of what you write on this site.
Just for the record - the ref got the off-side play of Fourie dead wrong - before Du Preez scored his try - the commentators stated that clearly as well. But you were praising Fourie to high heaven despite the obvious off-side play. That one swung the match in favour of the Springboks - if Fourie was penalized a loss by the Springboks would have been highly likely.
So lets get it s str aight - can you see the duplicity of which you are guilty here?

Jenkins was the prop for the Britsih and Irsish Lions in Australia last year - considered the best looshead prop in the UK and Ireland. He basically destroyed the Aussuie scrums in that series.
So here we go again - "now if the players on that level still don’t have the technical wherewithal and knowledge to pre-bind, hit, hold and then drive without falling down then they are not as good as they can be and scrum coaches at club and country need to up their game alongside players who must know they have to adapt."
What are you talking about here? The best loosehead in the UK and Ireland not knowing? Hell Mozart - you must really be desperate to coming up with that muck. Please get real for a change.
I asked in the thread for people to post their squad they would like tio see slected - not to try and denigrate the selections of members, Why don't you post your squad and forget about your constant denigrating of players you do not like. Post the squad - and we will see what Meyer comes up with next week - and compare notes about who was nearest the mark. That was the objective of the thread - not what you made it out to become.

What does being "the best loosehead in the UK" count for in any case? They are, after all, only playing CLUB rugby.

Potgieterr at 7 maybe but not at lock. We want real locks playing for the Boks. Now Potgieter (115 kg) is much more of a lock than wee victor (106 kg) granted but when one thinks of locks think of guys like Etzebeth, Du Toit, Loodt, Willemse etc.
Seems ou Cerudunce Windpomp thinks Lions rugby is club rugby hahahahahahahhaha

Moffie speaking complete shit again when it comes to scrums - Malherbe was good against Wales as he was in all the tests he has played in so far........Moffie has no idea when it comes to props, all he does is lie about their performances........look no further than Mujati for Saints, Coenie in general, Malherbe against Wales, but the biggest insult of all was his lying calls on Marcel v/d Merwe against the Rebels.......plain bare faced lies on every level
24 Jul 2014, 16:22#20
My squad for RC:
Looseheads: Beast; Thomas Du Toit; Coenie
Hookers: Bismarck; Strauss; Craig Burden
Tightheads: Jannie; Mujati; Malherbe
Locks: Etzebeth; Lood; Flip; Willemse
Loosies: Flouw; Coetzee; Burger; Juan Smit; Vermeulen (Captain)
Scrummies: Reinach; Ruaan
Flyhalves: Pollard; Lambie; Marnitz
Centres: Serfontein; De Allende; DeVilliers (if fit) otherwise Jaques Fourie
Wings:JP; Habana; Mvovo
Fullbacks: LeRoux; Frans (if his over his squabbles with SARU) otherwise Taute
If Pieter SDT was fit, I'd start him at 5 lock (this is where we are lacking at the moment)

A fool is an idiot that beleives the only function of a lock is to jump in line-outs and cannot see that Matfield is physically not up to standard and gets pushed aside with the greatest of ease.
That kind of selection will not work in the RC and I for one hope that he does not select the slapgat Matfield. He is way to light for the position and is not producing anything in tight play and drop lik a log in ball carries in traffic - giving away penalties.
If you say "Matfield ...played well" you must really consult an eye specialist - you are seeing mirages.
By the way - I do not think you saw a single match in which Potgioeter played - so plrasr diiscontinue with your standard BS.
24 Jul 2014, 16:48#23
Mike, if Flip is out the series, I'd have to bring in Lewies. We are really thin at the number 5 lock berth. Victor was the man, but not anymore. He is still great in the lineout, but useless is the tight phase and the tight-loose.

Green your side was looking good until you got to Pienaar at 9, Burger and Smith as loosies
24 Jul 2014, 17:07#25
Saffex, those are our problem areas you've just mentioned. My starting loose trio would consist of Flouw, Coetzee and Vermeulen with Burger to make an impact in the final quarter. There's not much world class depth at blindside and I thought it would be good to have Smith in the squad to share some of that experience and class but I certainly would'nt start him.
IMO the areas that concern me are number 5 lock, blindside flank and scrum half. I like Fourie Du Preez at scrum half, but his injured, so who else has a wealth of test experience except Pienaar. Hougaard is too slow at scrum half as he cannot past the ball off the deck, he tends to take a few side steps before releasing, thus putting his pivot under pressure. Reinach is untested in the test environment, but I'm prepared to take a chance with him to start because of the promise his shown at super level, but we all know the cauldron that is test rugby. It certainly is a different ball-game, so we'll see what happens.

Saff, from my squad above, this would be my matchday 23 (I'd be interested in seeing your matchday squad from currently available players):
1. Beast/Tom du toit (depending on beast's fitness)
2. Bissie
3. Jannie
4. Lood
5. Etzebeth
6. Flouw
7. Marcell
8. Duane (Captain)
9. Reinach
10. Handre
11. Habana
12. Serfontein
13. De Allende
14. JP
15. Willie
16. Strauss
17. Tom Du Toit/Coenie
18. Mujati
19. Flip/Lewies
20. Burger
21. Pienaar
22. Lambie
23. Taute
If the beast is not fit, I'll start with Du Toit at loosehead and replace him with Coenie in the final quarter. No place for Hougie in my team.
24 Jul 2014, 18:28#29
I see a couple of interesting squad members:
Habana - He will be available for the first two rounds only.
F Louw - Ditto Habana.
Mujati - Will never play for SA again. He is not an SA citizen, or a permanent resident.
Pienaar - Ditto Habana.
Du Toit - Hold your horses. The lad is 19 years old and is not even settled at S15 level yet. He is not a backline player, he is a prop, for goodness sake.
Duane Vermeulen - Captain? Huhh?
I am not even going to start at having a player who has spent the entire or almost entire season or have been on rehab for a long time, straight into the Bok starting line-up for the RC.

Nope I have not, I wanted de Allende and JJ in the side and de Allende is not quick enough for wing, so I'd play JJ there........JJ's best spot is 13, but I'm of the opinion that that is de Allende's best spot as well - get it?
24 Jul 2014, 20:08#34
Yep, get what you're saying but just the fact you are willing to put him out there means we are making progress !!
I think he compares favorably to Hendricks as JJ's defense has improved this year but would still give the edge to Hendricks as he has played in the recent games and shown better attacking ability and creativity - no doubt born from his days with the 7's team.

Hendricks has done more in 3 Bok matches than JJ has done in 12. There is chat about shifting JJ to the wing...why? Hendricks has reacted far faster to the opportunities, read play far better than JJ. All we would be doing is experiencing dead brain rugby on the wing instead of at centre. Choose alert competitive players....not dead wood.

Hendricks have one rather serious problem - that being the reason he was mostly on the bench for the Cheetahs - he is very suspect under high balls. Am afraid he got oppor tunities made for him by Le Roux in attacking play and now suddenly Mozart gets dilly again and lost sight of the players all-round game.
Engelbrecht always was a natural wing - he never really adjusted to playing at outside center. Some people can - but it is very rare. In the case of Engelbrecht it was the attacking game and problems in defense that showed his inability to adjust. In the case of Pietersen - it was his defensive game that was inadequate, both in 2012 and again this year.
One should in fact see what Engelbrecht can do on the wing - there is nothing wrong with that.

Are you sure Hendricks is good enough under high balls and in defense? He seemed a bit iffy to me at times. I also do not know why the Cheetahs does not regard him as a starting line up player - they rarely start with him.
26 Jul 2014, 10:44#40
Saff, I have'nt been on this forum for quite a while now, but looking at your matchday 23, I'm reminded that you a big fan of JJ. Unfortunately I don't share your enthusiasm for him and I would never leave a world class wng like Bryan Habana out of my side. Another problem I have is Coenie at tighthead. That experiment has been tried and he failed dismally. Other than that, not a bad team.
