Time for another Destroyli

Poisons build up over time. We have now had three coaches that followed the notion that there is an incumbent Bok team, that experience and familiarity counts. Over that time we have had mixed success....two TN titles ....one of the two RWCs....but generally a number two rating behind the ABs.

Not good enough say the fans, look at all the young players who are being ignored. What great rugby we could play. It apparently doesn't occur to these chaps that whoever we select will be man for man less dangerous than the ABs and OZ.

So they want us to ignore our competitive advantage in structured rugby and choose whoever looked good the previous week. Back to Rudolph Destroyli. Much beloved still by some.

It will be a disaster, but maybe like the stock market these crashes are necessary to flush out the poisons.

What utter rubbish

Lets ignore our experienced Boks who deserve to be in the side like JP, Habana (maybe), Beast, Bismark, Strauss and Vermeulen……..all are as good or better than their Kiwi and Oz counterparts.

At loosehead we have quality young looseheads in surplus, with Thomas du Toit leading the bunch. But with Beast we do not need to look at a youngster just yet.

At hooker we don’t need to look further than Bismark and Strauss, the best hookers in the game.

At tighthead we have Jannie hanging in there, he is no worse than Franks or Kepu. In Marcel v/d Merwe we have a player who looks equipped to be better than Franks or Kepu, so playing him would be an asset. Hell Malherbe is better than any young Kiwi or Oz tighthead prospect out there.

At lock we have Etzebeth who at his best is better than Retallick but lets keep it even for now….both are class young acts. To partner Etzebeth we have the likes of Willemse, PSDT and Lood who are better than both Carter and Simmons who are at best average and in Willemse, we have someone who would add more value than Whitelock and lets not forget how good PSDT was before his injury. These youngsters are twice the players old man Matfield is.

At 6 we have Coetzee getting better and better, he is not Hooper, the best 6 in the game, but give me Coetzee over McCaw these days.

At 7 we should have a player like Jacques du Plessis or PSDT, who would not disgrace themselves against Messam or Kaino and are far better than average Fardy

At 8 we have Vermeulen the 2nd best 8 in the game behind Read. In Arno Botha, we have a youngster to take over the mantle and far far better than average McCalman

At 9 we have Hougaard and Reinach, who are a match for Smith and Phipps…….not to mention Faf de Klerk and v/Zyl.

At 10, Pollard, Goosen and Lambie are a match for Barrett, Cruden, Foley and Cooper

At 12, Serfontein is far better than any young Kiwi or Oz 12 and certainly has the match of old man Nonu these days

At 13, we should be playing de Allende or JJ, JJ has already trumped Smith at test level. De Allende is a match for Kurindrani, I am giving the edge to impressive Fik of NZ. Old man Conrad Smith is making little impression these days, much like Jean

On the wing JP is a match for any wing but Savea……..we don’t have any standout youngsters here except maybe Senatla

At 15, young Willie is a match for Dagg and Folau

So what utter rubbish, we have better young talent than ever and they should be playing
