It was very clear and apparent that 30 min in to the first half that Victor Matfield was dragging his heals. His age is showing and allthough I am very pleased for the old boy to complete a comeback...I think it must be very clear to himself that he is struggling and is well below par for the next chapter in his career. That is if he makes it to the next chapter.

Then there is also Meyer, one has to ask "WTF are you thinking?"Of all the aged players the only one that really deserves a look in for me is Fourie du Preez. His contribution is at this point a 50-60 min with a new guy being his apprentice. That new guy undoubtably has to be Cobus Reinach or Hougaard. The rest are way way way below parr of what test match level requires.

One thing that made me sick to my gut was watching Burger gowing forward at slow-mow pace and then getting tackled backwards.(Was I the only one that noticed that)Then watching Jannie jogging behind the defence. We need a serious rethink at the next numbers:3,4,5,7,10,12.I know injuries has his us hard in the lock department and I honestly believe that it is the only reason why Meyer chose Matfield.I think the writing is on the wall about him after this game.

If I was Meyer I would have Lappies and Derrick Minnie(if not injured) on speed dial as well as Phillip van der Walt. What ever the situation is with Goosen needs to be sorted and he needs to prove himself or we need to grab hold of Pollard.I dont believe Boshoff rolled any ankle...its a bullshit story to play down his selection.Meyer was buying favour with the public there.

As for Serfontein...guess what Jordaan isnt that much smaller then him so,seeing Serfontein gets a go why not give Jordaan a go.Lets see it might just work.

I think you have hit the nail on the head.  I was not impressed by Burger as I wrote elsewhere.   Neither with the rest of the players you mention.
Meyer is likely to play Pollard this coming week - he has already been called up to the squad.   I also hope that he gets in Labuschagne since it is clear that neither Alberts nor Burger is the answer in the no 7 position.    Don't know whether he is over his injury though - probably he is.  Jordaan did very well when he faced Nonu and Crotty in Super 15 and I think he should hget a run this coming Saturday - he is better at 13 though - so I think he may play there - since Pietersen will have to replace Habana on the wing.

Yeah we need a new 7 quickly...I like Alberts but based on form the man is surely lacking. He hasnt had a big game for me in a long while. One where I walked away and could brag about his power and grunt.

I also dont really want to see Pollard walking the same road as Goosen. To much to soon then we sit with empty hands and Steyn lauging at us all.MY biggest worry is our center combo...man I saw a bad combo like this back in the day when Fleck and Esterhuizen were together.Like twin sisters going on a date...

Habana still has this season in him, then he needs to make way.Luwazi can learn a lot from him and actually Luwazi is showing him up for speed but not skill and inovation...yet.

With de Alende injured maybe R Ebersohn needs a look in.Think he might just surprize us all.

younger players need to win man of the match awards in curry cup or SuperXV, before being starting boks. Why replace legends with average Joe's?

Legends needs replacement when they run out of steam and are not competitive anymore.  That is the short answer.
We need to accept that players over 30 years of age are in the twilight stage of their careers.  Some can last longer than others - but if the bulk of the team is over that age - we must accept that the team as a whole will ultimately not be acceptable from a performance perspective.  They just do not hav the stamina to last through a full match - o r to be consistent in performances in successive weeks.

We need a coach that has the guts to tell Victor that his time is up.The romantic comeback is done...I am not in  love with that idea any more.It is only encouraging others and soon John Smit will be making a return LOL.So far t.b.h Meyer hasnt shown much creativity and it almost seems that Willie is only in the team because of public demand. What are the chances that Meyer got lucky at the Bulls....
