Coetzee: I am here until 2019
-Allister Coetzee

Cape Town - Springbok coach Allister Coetzee says he will stay onthe job until the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
Following a horrendous 2016 that saw the Boks win just 4 of their 12 Test matches, Coetzee had come under increased pressure, and it was only confirmed by SA Rugby last week that he would remain on as coach in 2017.
A training squad has assembled in Johannesburg this week for a mini-camp - the first of 2017 - and Coetzee addressed media on Sunday, saying that he was ready to guide the Springboks into the new year and beyond, with the World Cup in 2019 still the priority.
"I signed last year until 2019, and the contract hasn’t changed. (Still does not include a performance clause).
and, personally‚
I take it that in every Test where you go and represent the Springboks‚ There is a gun against your head to perform, and it’s there for everyone‚" Coetzee was quoted as saying by Business Day.
(All other Bok coaches would be fired for this- but the  gun pointed at Coetzee has blanks.)
Coetzee was also pleased to have some clarity on overseas-based player policy.
SA Rugby on Friday announced that only players who have over 30 Test caps would be illegible for Springbok selection.
"There’s no limit on the (number) of overseas-based players I can pick, and I’m happy with the policy that has been put into place," said Coetzee.
"There are players who have done their hard yards and have taken part in 30 Tests and they also need to take part in the succession plan for 2019 Rugby World Cup and be available for that."

He has a lot of cheek - he will only survive this year if there is a marked improvement in his performances.   This guy is bad news.

If there's a marked improvement it wouldn't be because of him but he'll get all the accolades. Nice guy I suppose, talks a good game but inept. He'll never have the dressing room....so sad.

There are whispers that no matter what happens with our next two games, he will be gone as Springbok coach.

I wonder how much truth there is to that.

Maybe he won't make 2019 like he said here.

Well, he's definitely not going to come out and say something like "Oh, I'll be gone at the end of the year, no worries".

Coetzee is a conservative and crap coach. He talks an expansive game, but as soon as the pressure is on he reverts to what he knows best- aimless kick and chase. No point replacing Coetzee with another SA coach- because this is what most of them seem to do. Meyer and White were much better coaches- but they were also over conservative.

Ackerman is probably the only one that understands an expansive game plan.
We need to get a New Zealand coach that understands that often the best form of defence is offence. Holding onto possession is the best way to stop the opposition attack.
