Too much Super Rugby on Saturdays

With 8 games a week, there is just too much rugby on Saturdays. We need some Thursday, Friday and Sunday games. Done right this has to increase interest and TV ratings. . In South Africa for example there are almost always 3 Saturday games. Take a page from Monday Night football and have Friday Night Rugby.

 Last week there were in fact two SA games on Saturday and one on Friday night - so you can come up with your standard nonsense after it in fact happened when the Bulls played on Friday night..   This week again there are two Saturday afternoon games in SA.
But you are no watching even a third of the games - so how do you know what really is going on?   

On six of the seventeen Fridays a Super Rugby match is played in South Africa. A huge opportunity lost....case closed.

 Makes sense. It's hard to watch more than 2 games on a given day, and even if you record other games they are usually the lesser contests and seem stale a few days later.

Sunday is the main event....but Monday night football opened up a much broader audience. Perhaps Friday night rugby could do the same thing for moribund Super Rugby.

 In principle I agree with more Friday night games in SA - but Sunday games are only involving Aussie sides in the rare event of it happening,    There never was a Sunday game in SA even when the number of teams are limited.  Sunday sport here attracts less spectators and is not used by families to visit sport with the possible exception of cricket - especially the shortened versions of the game.
I do not think they would play Sunday games here - so that version is out.   In the past players have refused to play on Sundays on religious grounds and that is still the case.  Aside from that from now onwards the SA Teams involved must travel to NZ and Australia.  It is in essence not advisable is the even of such away games.    Even if they leave on Sunday nights they may only get to their hotels as late as Tuesday and have to prepare for matches on Friday or Saturday nights.    
As to the issue of "moribund Super Rugby" has nothing to do with the days on which games are played - and everything to do with some sub-standard teams in the set-up.   You have conjured up statements about stadiums be empty - but that happened only when weaker teams play or when we have dud rugby being played according to your model of rugby.    That statement was made by  you when there were 35 000 spectators at Newlands for one of the Stormers games - so another cloud 9 statement on your part.

Too many Super Rugby matches period.

Who can watch it all ... especially when one's out and about doing your busines on a Saturday morning?

Would be nice to sit and watch a few matches during the week.

Problem with that is that teams would probably complain that the time frame between matches is too short for players to recover in.

The issue of reducing he number of teams and thus the number of matches is accepted by Sanzaar is something different and I here goes for games to be spread over more than two days.   I am not sure that would be advisable since the Thursday game tried this year was not a wholesale success.

 Too much rugby ? Sacrilege ! Actually it is hard when your busy to fit it all in ,like most I guess I get a look at highlights and concentrate on the big match-ups .

 The numbers are terrible, speaking of working at overcapacity. Does a 20 % attendance cover for upkeep costs?

One quick, sure way to reduce the number of games to watch: expectation of quality. This removes most games involving SA teams.

Watching games on Saturday was striking: when zapping from french sides to SA sides, it appears french sides could compete or beat SA sides by the number of non whites fielded.

The question mark was all about understanding how SAns could keep deluding themselves with that quota story. Or if they wanted to reject their responsibility in the current state of affairs, how they could think that the quota story held.

 Mozart is as per normal is BSing again.   The stadium can take 42 000 spectators and official figures indicated there were 15 000 - so the 20% BS is from the serial dunce.  The real percentage  was 36%.   Not good enough attendance - but to lie about this ty pe of thing is ridiculous.

Official figures would never say there were 15000 spectators, they always give a precise number. But if you can cut and paste the report that there were 15000 I will accept that. Over to you Fantasy Flop.

There was a full report where the 15000 figure was mentioned.    I will contact the Cheetahs office and get the real detailed figures from them.   In the meantime stew in your own juice - liar.
