Coetzee has had a record of not selecting players with try scoring abilities and the Stormers showed that through the years in Super Rugby.   In most years the other teams backlines scored more tries than the otal number scored by the Stormers.
So lets look at the try scoring this year under Coetzee:-
Number of tests played      =     8Number of tries scored      =    15
Tries scored per player:-
Du Toit                             =      3Whiteley                           =      3Goosen                             =      2Habana                            =       2Pietersen                          =      1Combrinck                        =      1De Allende                        =      1Mvovo                              =       1Etzebeth                           =       1
Of the above players all but Etzebeth, Whitley and Habana has been much maligned on this site.   Of the 10 players 2 has started for the Springboks in all tests,  Combrinck is injured and he may have had more tests if he could play,   Du Toit was mostly on the bench or was benched early in the tests,  Goosen is still in the squad, but .  has not been used at flyhalf - where he could ignte the backline.   Incidentally Goosen also had two try-assists.   The rest are out of the picture.
The absence of Goosen in particular was clear on Saturday - the backline was totally devoid of any form of attacking play.
Coetzee clearly does not see any reason to sore tries and he prefers to have players with scant backline ability other than perhaps in defense in his team.   That means that he is applying a game plan with a minimal chance of succes s in crucial games.

Yep the absence of Goosen was clear....we won the match.
This was so predictable, Tokkie having predicted a Bok loss of at least 15 points puffs up and tries to divert attention by making  a point about tries.
So who was missing in his try scoring list....not Stephanie, Whiteley, Habana, or Etzebeth. And of course Combrink was injured. So the beef is with Allende and Goosen. And of course Allende has one of the worst try scoring records since Wynand Olivier, and nobody is calling for Mvovo and JP.

So this is pretty much a bleat that says the Boks won't score tries without Goosen. Does anybody buy this bilge.

The main problem with Goosen appears to be his penchant for turnovers....4 in the first Bargie test, a match losing 5 in the second and 3 against NZ. Twelve in all in the 4 games he has played including the away Aussie test.... or 3 a game. That leads the Boks by some margin. Very costly.

What the hell has Mozart's coments to do with the whole issue of Coetzee's  game plan negating try scoring as a means of playing the game of rugby,   He obviously is clueless about that issue and is not even remotely aware that the game of rugby includes scoring of tries and try conversions as a means of winning matches.
He always concentrate on the issue of defense only and wen that is missing he tries to put a gloss on defense only.   Saturdays game was a copy of the atrocious games where the Springboks never came even remotely near to soring of a try.
However, his constant attacks on Du Toit has been reduced slightly in recent weeks - one mistake by Du Toit would have it back in all his hysteria and as for Whiteley  it continues without stop.   So the top three try scorers contributing  8 of the 13 tries scored is on his sh!tlist.   What an idiot.

Moz,He (Goose) sucked as a 15, he'll suck at 13 in the test arena. But I would definitely give him a go at 10. If he doesn't perform, see ya later.

Well MB I'm from Missouri on the Goose, but I have been wrong before.....nah I'm  just being polite, Jantjies, the Quaalude and the Goose will never police 10 channel. These guys are fan favourites, and when they do something every fifth game, they get a pass for the next four. Give me Pollard any day.

One thing that is beyond dispute is that AC does not have the smarts to put together an attacking game plan no matter who is drafted into the team. It is just not in his DNA. Goosen is not the answer at 10. Imagine him starting on Saturday or coming off the bench with 20 to go....  Who would be happier the Bok or the AB supporters...
Morne has limitations and is not a long term solution but he is the best we have for Saturdays game. Having said that if he plays on a par with last Saturday I will be quite happy. You cant expect him to kick, run, pass, tackle AND score the tries. The boks need to dramatically improve patience, ball protection an retention.

@Pakie. Our friend, ComradeMike, is indeed a strange specimen. Many moons ago, he tried to convince me that he watches a game make observations of what happens, even taking down notes during the game. After the game, and only then, he would turn to the stats to confirm his observations.
These days, he seems to look at the stats, then plays out the game in his head and then make the observations.

I have not watched the game and has better things to do that to be bored to death.   However - this is not about the game on Saturday.   If you can understand English you may just find out that it relates to all tests played under Coetzee.   The game on Saturday is only mentioned  since no tries were scored by the Springboks.

Do try to keep your lies under control Mike. And stop drawing conclusions from a game you're too lazy to watch. You're just showing everyone how good you are at making stuff up.

I do not get electricity bills at all - I am on prepaid electricity now and in Tinley Manor Beach I used sun and wind electricity,  So you are not up to date at al.
If I wasted my time watching that game I would admit it - but I did not and in the end I was right in just not watching the crap at play.

I happened to go to Still Bay on Saturday to buy some Clivia plants for my Clivia garden patch and now has 26 of those - different colours.  Much better to do that than to be bored to death by watching the useless Springboks.   I lost interest when I saw the team - especially the backline.  Alistair-ball is as entertaining as Jake-ball - not much difference.
For the first time in many years of Super Rugby the Springboks failed to score a single try against the Wallabies.
I will be watching the game on Saturday because the AB's play entertaining rugby and I expect that for the first time in years in Super Rugby the Springboks will score zero tries on Saturday as well.

Trys are rare under this quota coach and now that he's brought the useless Morne in we can expect a lot less than ever before.
They're perfect for each other.

Mike, if the Springboks and Wallabies were playing Super Rugby, they'd probably get well beaten by the Lions and all the NZ franchises, but I strongly suspect they are too busy trying to stumble their way through the Rugby Championship to worry about that!

I did CC, I am officially a coward! I am trying to reconcile my cowardice by reminding myself that I did not buy the ticket and therefore did not support SArugby....but ja, that is not much more than a cop out. Of course I could just have lied and pretended I didn't go, but I may be a coward, but I am not a liar.
The match was a little surreal though, because logically I was hoping the Boks would lose to add to the mounting pressure to fix things....but still wanting the win, because I still love the Springbok ideal. Once the dust had settled, I left the stadium disappointed because the boks played boring error strewn rugby, but still managed to win. Which took all the pressure off the powers that be to act, and I tend to be a bigger picture kind of guy, and I know the win, weird as it sounds, was a "loss" for the Boks.

I will not be watching the AB/RSA game though. That I can guarantee!

I thought you'd give me a detailed run down of the awesome food you enjoyed ... that you had a little too much to drink and called a mate to assist you home.
That that topped the dismal display of rugby you scanned from time to time ... and that the company sharing the box with you made the outing enjoyable.
Cowardice?? Nah ... I think that's being a little rough on yourself.
Enjoyment in the end is what it's all about, right?

You guys have to get real....we can't field a fullback, wing or centre who would make the ABs, Oz or the Poms today. The one hope is Rohan who Coetzee should select. And you want to play running rugby? We have to play to our strengths until we find those world class players. No point in losing in the meantime it builds nothing.

We are realistic - you are not,   When last did the Springboks played the Wallabies without scoring a single try?    That is a crucial question.  I think it was under Jake White a decade ago - so the coach and his game plan and selections are to blame.
The players you keep on denigrating will make  most international teams and the hopeless cases you keep supporting will never make it - that is the difference.

Listen you dolt - this thread deals with try scoring by the Springboks,   Did they score a try on Saturday?   They did not as a result of the decision to destroy any attacking possibility by the backline through selection.
However, it is not a thread where you should make any comments on since you favour Jake-ball as a game plan where the scoring of tries does not feature and any attacking play is to be condemn outright.

You knew the selections when you made your Boks will lose by at least 15 prediction. At least....that meant you thought probably by more. Come to think of it you really missed the result by 30 points or more.....jy is maar dom ou Tokkie.

This is typically Mozart.   The issue is that Coetzee's record as to scoring of tries stank to high heaven at the Stormers and the same happened in the case of the  Springboks on Saturday.  He cannot debate the issue logically and revert to his normal side=tracing BS.

Nope. Let me tell you what's happening here. Having totally embarrassed yourself with your ignorant take on the Aussie test, you have latched onto tries. If we had lost or if Morne hadn't drenched you with egg we would never have heard about the lack of tries. A fake issue used as a red herring by a fake.

Look dofdoos - I was dealing with the game plan used by Coetzee for the Stormers that reduced try-scoring to the minimum and pointed out the present scenario, with reference also to the fact that in a decade there never was an Aussie test when the Springboks did not at least scored one try.   If that is beyond your comprehension then one can just wonder what is?
My projection about the inability of the Coetzee team to play attacking rugby was clearly evident in the stats relating to the test last Saturday.   The fact that the Springboks won that test with penalty kicks and a dropped goal could easily have backfired on them and will  lose them more tests than they win.
The fake here is you - an absolute idiot knowing nothing about rugby.
