Very little is known outside of their own countries about players to watch out for in the Under 20 WC starting on Monday.   A few of the players have played on Super 15 level or at least have been part of the Super 14 squads.

It would be interesting to have more background information of players from the various national teams to be on the look out for.   I for instance has already amrked down Simon Hickey - the NZ capptain as a player to watch out for - but there is every likelihood that there are others as well.

Insofar as the SA players are concerned - the following players are likely to be standing out:-

Full back - Jesse Kriel

Wing       - Lloyd Greef

Center     - Andre Esterhuizen

Flyhalf     -  Handre Pollard (c)

No 8       -  Aidon Davis

Locks      -  Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg

                 JP (Jakkals) Schickerling

Props      -   Thomas du Toit

                  Wilco Louw

Hooker    -    Malcolm Marx

If there was a fantasy selection most of the above would be serious considerations on my part.

Can members please provide further infornmation on the squads of other countries to be on the look out for.

Mike - Davis at 8 is no great shakes at all. Sergal Petersen on the wing will be a star, as will du Preez on the flank. I see his twin brother is out injured and has been replaced by flanker Jacques Vermeulen who should have been in the squad originally. There is much window dressing in the looseforward department and the squad is a lock short.

Petersen was poor in the games against the Argentinians and they kept on bringing in Van der Merwe to ensure that he makes up for the poor play of Petersen.  I do not think he would make the grade.   They should have picked Van der Merwe instead of Petersen on the wing and not window dress in that case.
Davis was quite good in the Argentina games - hence my comments above.   As you say there is a lot of window dressing in the loosies and it could become a problem for us.   We must hope that the two locks last through the whole WC.

I did not think the Argentinian games had been televised?

They were - but they showed only about 30 minutes of each game - mostly the highlight packages.

Well Petersen was brilliant for the Kings last year, so U20 rugby should be a breeze for him - he is a class act

Even though I agree with you re the above - it is evident that the Government and SARU would not have accepted the squad indicated by you.   They had to find  enough Black players to fill 9 positions in the squad and that was the issue that counted - it had nothing to do with performances on the field of play.
It weakened the team considerably and that is the end of it.  If the Baby Boks does not win the trophy this year,  there is one issue that will be the reason - the non-selection of the best players in each position because of the quota system.  I suppose we have to accept that rubbish and hope for the best.

You are 100% right........how Wright, Philips, v/d Merwe, Koegelenberg, Schramm and Venter have not made the squad is insulting
