Morné Steyn lines up a kick for Stade Français

Stade Français are willing to release Morné Steyn from his contract, according to reports in Midi Olympique.

Steyn has endured a year to forget, where he has fallen down the pecking order at both club and international levels.

Having seen both Pat Lambie and Handré Pollard move above him as the preferred flyhalf options in recent weeks, Steyn now appears to be surplus to requirements in France.

He has made just 15 appearances for the Parisian club since signing in October last year, with young Frenchman Jules Plisson the favoured choice at flyhalf. Stade Français are looking to offload him and his large salary just a year into his three-year contract.

It is understood that they would be willing to release him from his contract 'provided they are able to reach an agreement amicably'.

Midi Olympique added that an unnamed Top 14 club is already interested in signing the 30-year-old South African, who has been capped 60 times for the Springboks.

This surely must be the end of the line for Morne as a Springbok, but who knows?
I wonder if Stade De Francais have gone behind his back to try find a buyer for him. It must be at a discounted rate.
So Stade De Francais must be pretty desperate to get rid of him.
If Goosen can stay injury free then surely their cant be a place for a club players that has offloaded.
Pisson is not even making his national team squad, and he is preferred to moaning steyn.

I read an article earlier by Andrew Merhtens and he said that defending against the Boks is now so much harder. In the past they could rely on Morne to not attack the inside channel and this allowed the defence to drift outwards to close down any space. Now they have to watch the inside gap between the forwards and backs which makes it harder to also defend against wide attacks. Barrett had a tough time on defence with Pollard and wee Cruden probably will not like Barrett running over him at full speed.

This is news that will be not welcome to the three morons on this site.  I made a farce  about Paris St Germaine - but was always thinking that Stade Francais made a bad buy in his case and that they might want to get rid of Morne - because he really was not producing the goods.    He is far too one-dimensional and is not really up to standard as an all-round flyhalf.
I feel sorry for Morne - for I do not think he really needs to be treated that way.   He is by all accounts a gentleman - so he does not deserve it.   However, he was not a good buy and it is a hard environment professional sport is played in.
Zeromoron must be hurting badly - this news after Goosen had a top game only last Friday.   Mozart must also be in despair - he always was a great Morne admirer through thick and thin.   Both have been venmous against any potential flyhalf that could replace Steyn.
Wonder whether there is any club in France that would be prepared to take over the contract?   One of the lesser clubs would probably be interested - provided Stade Francais is prepared to pay the difference bettween what they can afford and the contract amount of Morne Steyn.
Zeromoron has a lot to say normally - but I suspect he is in mourning and will not react to this thread.

I said many times that the lack of threat via Pienaar and Morne was a huge problem. That problem has been solved.
