Van Graan gone

Springbok forwards coach Johann van Graan will join Irish province Munster as their new head coach. SA Rugby confirmed on Wednesday that the 37-year-old had been released from his contract. Van Graan will replace Rassie Erasmus, who has been appointed as SA Rugby's director of rugby. Van Graan spent the last six seasons as Bok forwards coach. He was first appointed in the role before the start of the 2012 Test season by former coach Heyneke Meyer. He also worked with Meyer at the Bulls, where he was part of the team that won the Super Rugby title on three occasions. ........ Trained by HM this man appears to be competent. The Bok lineout in NZ was a blemish, but the Bok forwards have always looked much better prepared than the backs. This move was disputed but where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Probably a negative for the YE tour.

Rassie’s fiirst new contribution to Bok rugby appears to be disrupting the coaching team....it’s not likely this chap was appointed without his enthusiastic endorsement.

 Once again your deception is boundless,   Munster makes appointments and whether Erasmus "enthusiastically" supports the application of Van Graan is seriously questionable.   Van Graan was a Meyer appointee and was on contract until 2019.
Erasmus and Meyer was never really on the same side of the fence and it is likely that Erasmus was partly instrumental in the departure of Meyer and the appointment of a new coach.   Why should he effectively support the appointment of one of Meyer's henchmen by Munster?

Oh sure Munster wouldn’t bother to ask Rassie whether he thought van Graan was up to it.....why would a professional organization bother to get input available right on their doorstep? Of course Rassie must have enthusiastically endorsed van Graan. This isn’t the provincial administration.
